From the manufacturer
Wrench-Off Oil Filters
K&N Premium Wrench-Off Oil Filters are specially designed for high durability and high flow rates in extreme conditions. Each oil filter comes with a hex nut welded to the top of the canister so it can be easily wrenched-off with a standard tool. An Anti-drain back valve (where applicable) keeps oil in the engine to help prevent dry starts and rolled threads help prevent stripping and give a smoother installation.
Sturdy 1-inch Welded Nut on Canister for Easy Removal
Many oil filters are located in awkward locations. This nut allows easier removal with a 1-inch socket.
Built with Strength and Safety in Mind. K&N oil filter walls are highly durable to lower the risk of debris or rocks damaging the housing. They are also designed to handle higher oil pressures without bursting.
High Flow Rates and Outstanding Filtration Efficiency
The specially designed filter media helps K&N oil filters maintain excellent filtration even with the heavier grade oils and higher GPM flow rates experienced in extreme conditions.
Great for Use with Conventional or Synthetic Motor Oils
K&N oil filter media is specially designed for use with today’s Synthetic and long life motor oils.

Top Customer Reviews
Needless to say, I will not be buying another K&N oil filter any time soon.
Note: Avoid the "PS" series of K&N. Inferior quality, not worth the slight price difference.
The center threaded disc that spins onto the post of your vehicle's filter mount has some glue or sealant in the transition between the disc and the rest of the filter's base. I cleaned it off, but am a little disappointed, since the stuff could have come off on its own and circulated through the engine. Maybe it would eventually be caught by the filter, or maybe the particles would just lodge somewhere in the engine. Not good. Never saw this on the U.S.A. made filters, and the company had better keep a tight handle on quality control in case other manufacturing issues turn up.
This problem is not serious enough to downgrade my initial 4-star rating.
specs. Two weeks later it fell off. Don't waste your money I put it back on and it would not tighten. I guess the internal spiral mechanism holding the filter to the engine separated?
The K&N filters I've used have always performed well and looked like they were built of a good quality afterwards. The filter media is well supported and intact, and there are plenty of fine particulates trapped. The oil that I've drained has looked decent (for used oil) too.
I've owned, ran, maintained, and rebuilt a LOT of engines. And, while I don't have a standard or favorite brand of filters and lubricants, I do try not to buy cheap junk. K&N seems to have a good industry reputation, and their price is fair. I have used a lot of their oil and air filters and have never been disappointed.
The wrench off back is a great idea but the only downside is that the nut on the back is so large most people won't have a socket big enough in a typical tool set, but if you have an extensive socket set it's great... or if you are faced with a stuck on oil filter it's probably a lot easier to get a socket for it rather than dealing with a slipping filter wrench or trying other creative solutions like puncturing it with a screwdriver for leverage.
With the price of the filter, my Amazon Prime free shipping and no tax this was by far the lowest price I found anywhere.
