I am very satisified witht the purchase of this monitor that I have had for approximately a month. The monitor is just the right size for my computer desk and everyone who sees it likes it. The monitor was easy to install and it is plug and play, so I did not have to use the cd that came with it. The monitor colors are very sharp and I am still amazed at how great everything looks when I am on the computer. My husband loves the monitor and stays on the computer forever. I used to stay on my laptop, but now that I have this monitor, I am on the desktop more because I can see everything so vibrantly. I have no complaints, but the built-in speakers are a little low; however, this is no problem to me because I have my own speakers hooked up and they work just fine with the monitor. This is really a quality monitor for the price and would definitely recommend everyone to purchase this monitor. I would just like to say that this is my first review and after receiving this wonderful monitor, I feel good about writing it.

Pros:
Very clear image, thanks to DVI.
Sound quality from speakers is much better compared to others I've owned.
The screen itself is quite eye appealing, sleek and glossy.
The resolution is not so bad.
The wide screen is wider than most (16:9 vs. 16:10).
Works right out of the package.
Works very well with video games and movies.
Great when two applications need to be open at the same time.
Great cable management via an opening in the base of the monitor.

Cons:
Glossy screen oftentimes reflect objects anytime a light source is present.

Summary:
Great screen, great quality, great image, but, as all products come with something to dislike, I disliked the reflections on the glossy screen.

Running twin HP2009m monitors vertically

I typically run twin monitors on my desktop PC's because it's easier to multitask with multimonitors. Unfortunately, I had a monitor die (a Viewsonic, old age) and so I ran out to buy a new monitor to get me by. The first one to catch my eye was this HP2009m with brightview technology. I'm familiar with it as my HP notebook uses it for a display and it's gorgeous. I wanted two, but the Wal*Mart store only had one so I bought the second unit from Amazon. Usually when a store is about out of something, that says to me it's good stuff. It's the products gathering dust on the shelves you got to worry about.

The resolution is outstanding, at 1600x900 (1600x1800 with twins top and bottom) and using the large icon setting to get around the dinky look of icons on the high-res desktop, the display is crisp. With a 5ms response time, the video looks very clean with none of the streaking that plagued older LCD screens like the ones these monitors replaced.

The price is incredible, the display is flawless, I'm almost at a loss to find anything bad to say about this monitor, but if I had any recommendations to improve them:

The bright white power LED is something I'm sure HP thought was cute, but I've seen pocket flashlights putting out less light. That could really be toned down.

Adjustable height would be nice. Adjusting the height pretty much consists of changing the height of whatever you set it on. The feet are fixed height. It's 2" up off the desk. If you want it lower than that, tough luck and if you want it higher than that set it on a phone book or something.

With twin monitors, color does shift with viewing angle. I'm sure this is because of the glossy brightview coating and while it's not a showstopper, it's something a twin monitor user would notice.

Overall, I'm very happy with the monitor, especially given the price to performance. It's an inexpensive monitor that makes me rethink the old saw about getting what you paid for. This monitor delivers beyond expectations.

Great monitor for students

I've had this monitor for about 7 months and I love it. I'm a student and use this as an adjunct display w/ my laptop primarily for going over PowerPoint lectures, reading articles, and surfing the web.

The monitor is bright and crisp, has zero dead pixels, and the widescreen format comes in handy when I have multiple windows open or when I just want to read a document in super large font to give my eyes a break. The 1600x900 native resolution is not the highest among widescreen monitors out there, but I think it strikes a good balance by giving me the extra space I need without forcing me to squint really heard to read text.

As others have said, the built-in speakers aren't great: they have really limited low freq range as you can expect with speakers of this size. Mid and higher ranges sound good to me. One of the reasons I bought this monitor was because I have limited desk space and having built-in speakers was a selling point. This monitor has really met that need for me. I haven't really had any problems with it being too quiet; these speakers can actually get decently loud without distortion.

Setup is easy, on-screen menus are straightforward. This monitor is highly recommended.

Great deal for a monitor as nice as this one. Beautiful image quality. I love the wide screen, it makes it easier to do things like have open multiple windows at the same time when working with multiple files/applications. Setting it up to work with my old desktop PC was quick and easy. The on/off button under the lower right part of the screen frame lights up a pretty blue color while the screen is on. When the computer is on standby and the screen is off, that light changes to a less bright orange color.

Plus, I bought this monitor to use with a HP Pavilion 522n desktop PC that didn't play sound because it wouldn't recognize the speakers at all after we re-installed Windows XP on it (re-installed Windows XP with boot CD that did NOT come with the PC; couldn't find some unknown drivers after re-install), but now I have sound on that PC again because this monitor also plays sound through it!
