Good printer, poor 123.hp printer set up site.

This is actually a 5 star printer, easy to set up and connect to your wireless network at home, My only negative experience with this item is that there is no software packed in the box, and you are instructed to go to HP's 123 setup website to download software. Well I got there fine, but when I clicked on the install software, I ended up with "page no longer available". The has "support chat" pop up's that will not go away, and constantly blocking the print on the website so you can't read it as to what to do next. I finally started a chat, and of course they want the serial number, etc...so got to get all that out....well the "support" was absolutely useless, and finally got on the phone with them, and of course it is a tech that I can hardly understand due to language issues, and always talking too fast. This should have been a simple "go the hp.com, go to support, and download the drivers for your model" kind of instruction. But the support tech wanted to assist with remote access to my computer, and even after that, he gave me a lot of questionable information that it couldn't be done on my computer, or some such nonsense. I am not technically impaired, and have downloaded drivers and software for devices many, many times, and this 123 site was not only poorly functioning, but their support made a simple process very complicated for no reason. I closed the session and said I would find what I need at their official site. Went to HP.com and downloaded the drivers and software for the printer, and it went just fine, with no problems at all. So. I would not recommend the 123 hp website to install your drivers for this printer, it was not a good experience for me, at any rate.

I had an HP PSC 750 for many years, loved it for many reasons. It did, however has it's quirks from time to time. Eventually, it became obsolete and I replaced it with a Canon PIXMA. They can use any ink and are not temperamental in that regard like HP is. The Canon didn't use near the ink, but it also didn't print well because of that. It also misaligned and I was never able to align it correctly. It also began printing light gray on some areas of print out. Then, it died altogether after a few short years. So, I thought I'd go back to HP. Big mistake. This envy wouldn't use it's brand new ink sent with it. It said "do not use this ink." I went online and found it was a common problem. I tried endless things suggested, nothing worked. It also would not go online through my router and I was unable to add it manually on my PC. These are things I've not ever had a problem with for anything. Then, the back of the cover for the scanner snapped and wiped out my coffee and broke. I didn't like that you have to open it and then open the ink compartment just to add ink anyway, but when it actually broke on it's own, I officially swore off HP printers for decades to come. I will get another PIXMA and hope for the best! Also, I didn't like the look of it, the white cover looked cheap and ugly. I thought it would look sleek and classy, it did not.

Looks well made and like the white color. Fits in with decor very well. Pretty much plug and play which makes it so easy to set up. Cartridge'sl install easily - wireless setup on one IMac and three MacBooks pretty much automatic. Also prints from iPhone easily My three daughters and I have been using for over a week now. Print quality is great - has been used to print primarily college papers and briefs. Have used color a couple of times and quality looks great on regular paper. I haven't printed anything on photo paper yet (probably won't use for that) so cannot comment on photo quality. Paper loads easily and fit is nice. Copier works well. Touchscreen easy to use. Time will tell. It seems like these printers last for about 5-6 years but at this price I can live with that. Overall very pleased with this printer.

I, too, received the same error about the cartridges. I gave up and called HP direct. Turns out my printer needed to be updated, but could not do that until it was connected to Wi-Fi. The agent was very helpful, took control of my printer, updated everything, removed the old printer, made sure I could print from my phone and waited until I turned on my Mac to set it up with the printer. Take the easy road, call HP direct if you get the cartridge error message.

This is my review after using it for a month.
Install went OK, then a few days later I got a "new HP software available" message, and like a fool I clicked on it. You know how it goes, you hit install, reinstall, restart, etc. until it finally works (hours!).

I am very disappointed in printer settings. For print quality you have draft. normal, or best. How many dpi is each setting? You will never know b\c that data is not available. Isn't that great? Also the scan will not save as a PNG.

This printer seems like it was programmed by a Microsoft eng. They will decide data you need, and prevent you from setting it up the way you want. (like setting up a print for 400 dpi, NO....you cannot do this!)

Also, to turn printer off you have to depress and hold on/off button for 10 secs. That is a pain when you are in a hurry (most of the time!)

If you want to know what the quality of your print will be, before you print, DON'T BUY THIS.

I have to say that after reading many of the reviews on this printer I was a bit leery, but it had exactly what I wanted in a printer and I have been a long time HP user so I ordered and received today. I was pleasantly surprised as set-up was simple. I did not use the 1-2-3 site. I downloaded the driver from the HP site beforehand. I also received the ink cartridges with the printer and as someone else noted, - they are tucked away in the Styrofoam so I can see how someone could not see them and throw them away with the box. Within five minutes of plugging in and connecting via Wi-Fi, I printed by first page and it looked great. I love the smaller footprint than my old printer which was also a fax and took up a ton of space.
