I lowered my review from 5 stars to 3 stars because this thing sucks up ink like a wino coming out of a two-day stint in the drunk tank. I haven't even printed 500 pages (probably much closer to 300) and my black cartridge is out. Plus for the most part I used draft mode, except a couple small jobs when I forgot.
The 2130 is still the simplest and most dependable printer I've had in a long time, and I love it for that, but the ink issue is a drawback. IMO it doesn't outweigh the good, but just be aware.
I love this simple, economical, dependable little printer. About a year ago I got my mother one after she couldn't ever figure out how to trouble-shoot the innumerable, chronic problems the execrable Dell v525 she had. Life is too short to run printer tech support via phone every week with your mother! :-/ So as a replacement for her I opted for this "unsophisticated" little workhorse, thinking the lack of wireless and other "advanced" capabilities would make it more dependable and generally easier for her to deal with. Boy, was I right! She hasn't had one problem with this printer since we got it. Not only that, but set up was a breeze and print quality excellent. The hardware fits 8.5" wide paper perfectly, and common variations in paper size are clearly marked on the paper guide, so there is no fiddling when trying to properly align it. Also no guessing how to place a document in the scanner so that you catch the whole image. Etc. Plus, it has a little plastic guard that covers the paper feeder at the back of the printer from dust and debris when the printer is not in use and there's no paper in it. A simple, useful feature no other printer I've ever had has offered.
So I just bought one of these for myself after going one too many rounds with my own crappy Dell v525. Ten minutes from box through installation, printing test page, and now writing this review.
Wish I'd tossed that execrable Dell printer and bought this for myself sooner. I hope HP always keeps a few of these "unsophistacated" little workhorses around for us Luddites who know that bells and whistles aren't always needed or wanted. Maybe this model isn't suitable for someone who prints a lot while moving around the house with a mobile device, but that's not me (or my mother). I hate paper clutter, and save most documents electronically. Most of what I print is return labels for the odd item from Amazon that isn't suitable. I take the paper out of the feeder between print jobs. If that describes your own printer usage, consider buying this dependable, high-quality little workhorse.
I am editing my review and raising it a star. I was unhappy with the seller previously not indicating that it does not come with a USB cable catching some buyers, including myself, off guard (despite some commentators that felt this should have been some sort of innate knowledge that we should have been born with, but I think the average consumer wants the kind of product description that tells them if they can use it straight out of the box or not). Now 3 months after the review was originally posted, they have added in the description that the USB cable needs to be purchased separately. +1 for better transparency on the seller's part.
So, after Office-Spacing the Envy with a baseball bat, I thought, "do I really need a wireless printer? Am I that lazy? Clearly not. I have taken the effort to find a baseball bat with which to destroy this thing for once and for all. Now I will get a cute and cheap printer and spend all my money on ink."
So I'm done shelling out for smart printers.
This thing plugs and plays like a dream.
