I love this thing! I have 15 milk crates full of notebooks of old BW 35 and 120 negatives. I've been uploading images I forgot I'd even taken. As a professional artist working in mixed media this little machine has sparked my imagination and given me fodder for countless new works of art. Re: resolution - some reviewers complained that the image resolution is low quality. Who cares! The image when uploaded to the computer screen is crisp and full size. Way better than my desktop scanner. Love Love Love!

This is a very good scanner. I have no idea what other reviewers are talking about. The picture quality is crystal clear. It looks just as real as the original picture put on the scan-bed. However, for a first time user I would not really recommend this as he or she may find it bit too advanced. But for an intermediate scan user or someone who has used scanners before, they should find it very good. My computer worked perfectly, it never crashed as other reviewers have claimed. If you have 2 GB memory at least, I see no reason for it to crash. However, there is no user manual in this scanner. So I think it is not designed for a first time scan user.

I bought the Scanjet G3110 primarily to bring forward to digital my 2" x 2" 35mm color slide collection. Scanning at 400 pixels per inch has produced great colors beyond 2000 x 2000 format. Importing the raw scan file into IPhoto for it's editing features, and display options, has produced a satisfying conversion update to utilize today's technology options. A new life for those images of mine, which haven't seen light in 39 years, has been an opportunity to leave a legacy for future generations of the family. The scanner is basic, with a solid 35mm slide or negative adapter built into the lid, has a versatile menu of scanning options for file save formats. It works! I would buy another, and another.

hi,

I was hesitant to buy this scanner until I noticed that nearly all of the negative reviews were written in 2008, and several 5-star reviews were written in 2009. I confirmed with HP that there have been several driver revision in 2009, including updates in Dec 2009, and March 2010. I'm using the latest Mac driver (Mar 2010) on OSX 10.6, and I've had no problem with the scanner. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because the speed is somewhat slower than my previos liDE 30 Canon scanner, and it doesn't have photo separation tech like that one did. However, all-in-all a good scanner. One last note... I love Amazon, but I found this scanner new for 40 dollars on e-bay.

I set this scanner up and was scanning in about 5 minutes. Couldn't be easier. It's faster than my older 3570C HP scanner, and quieter. I have used it several days now with no issues. Seems to play nice with Mac OSX. It does exactly was it's supposed to do.

( as an additional note, I bought this scanner in 2010, and here it is 2015, and the scanner continues to work flawlessly! )

This scanner did an okay job scanning a paper document to a PDF file. The software that comes with the scanner is very clumsy. One of the reasons I bought this scanner was the extra feature to digitize 35mm slides. Slides with very crisp images scanned to very blurry images. It did a very poor job for scanning film.

Just bought this one today and am returning it right away.

The installation software on the CD did not work, saying that there a file called hpzrein01 has failed. Once I managed to download the 168Mb software from HP website, the problem again persisted. I've tried in two different laptops (Windows XP) and the problem was the same. In the end, I managed to just download the driver without the full software.

The scans are horribly done. I wanted to use it to scan photos but it keeps on scanning the part of the lid that has the entrance for the negatives. This means that I would have to crop the picture to get the actual photo size. Add to this that the scan was super slow, I cannot believe this product actually came out the market.

I am sorry but whoever at HP that gave the green light for this product to come out should look for another job. He would do HP (and the world) a favor.

The HP Scanjet G3110 was shipped in its consumer packaging. I knew when it arrived by the "plop" as it was dropped on my doorstep by UPS, who could obviously tell he was delivering a piece of electronic equipment. Fortunately, HP packaging was sufficient to protect the contents albeit the box took quite a beating. As far as I can tell, the scanner did not sustain any damage. It is very loud when scanning however I have seen this noted in several reviews on Amazon and the HP site. It is important to note that any OS later than Vista will require a direct download from the HP site for the proper drivers and software. (I am running Windows 7 x64 bit). ***DO NOT USE THE INCLUDED CD WITH WINDOWS 7 or 8!!!*** This information is included with the scanner documentation but can be easily missed if you are one to start loading and plugging. You must download the software PRIOR to plugging in the scanner. I realize that "instruction manuals are just another man's opinion", but it was truly a "plug-n-play" device once the software and drivers were downloaded with step by step on screen instructions.
