I bought this PC because as much as I like my Toshiba Chromebook II and its gorgeous 1080p display for casual browsing, I find dealing with files stored in OneDrive or attached to emails to be too much of a hassle through ChromeOS. This inexpensive Windows PC solves that problem. As a casual-use PC (it complements my Dell XPS, but doesn't replace it) it serves nicely and the Chromebook will be put up for sale shortly.
Perhaps the most important point: this PC cost just over $200. With that in mind, it's a fair value.
Take with a couple grains of salt: I was raised on Windows but my year old chromebook has spoiled me and I only set up this laptop for my mother last week. She's wanted a laptop for a while now and after finally convincing her not to shell out the extra $200-300 just to have a CD drive (for music) we got her this. I can always upload any remaining cds with the desktop and transfer them. She didn't want to try out a chromebook like mine though, so familiar we go.
But just the setup...
First of all, I agree with many of the other reviews talking about the space being eaten up by the OS. I've cleaned off as much as I could but I could only do so much. I added a 64gb sd card for extra memory to help out the remaining pitiful 14gbs on the comp itself.
Second, it actually seemed to run a bit slow after set up. Even when I cleared some programs off, it still seemed to lag a bit. Mind you, I still use a Vista 2 desktop. I know lag.
Soon I'll go for another round of cleaning with a list of additional programs that shouldn't be there.
Other wise? It was nice. And even though I'm not all for cortana, I liked the way she walked you through things, so I'm going to work that out as first line of assistance to her if I'm not immediately around.
I feel as though I gave more of a rant in comparison than actual review of the product. But it is a large part of why I got a chromebook than the stream. I heavily considered this very model for myself.
If you like the familiarity of Windows, don't mind getting additional storage (I recommend the mini thumb drives as well, I love mine), like to play games (chromebook doesn't come with much pre-installed games without shelving bookmarked flash games and I can't play steam on it, so 10 for you Microsoft) and are prepared to install your own preferred (safer/faster) browser (I'm sorry Microsoft, but edge was so slow, it took 5 minutes to GET to Google and then download chrome and I'm being nice on that time), then this may be for you.
Also, Windows defender/essentials is an awesome native antivirus program so don't waste your money on stuff like Norton or McAfee, trust us. If it's not already downloaded and activated (self activates apparently when you remove all other antivirus programs) then its easily downloadable from the Microsoft site.
That's my 2 cents until new years.
