The backlight seems like it may not have been the best match for this panel, this display really likes to wash out the blacks. It took a fair bit of mucking with OS settings to tame it into something I can live with, but it was possible to get there. I was left with the impression that the color temp and so in in the monitor's own settings didn't have much basis in reality.
The unit is lightweight, handy if you want to raise it on a small stand. This monitor does have an option to turn off the power light, super helpful because it's the eye-searing blue LED variety, and now I don't need to resort to a Sharpie or tape. Nit: the button labels on the front are a little too subtle, figuring out what the buttons do will be a new adventure every time (most monitors seem to share this quirk).
On the "standard" color setting, colors seem a bit undersaturated; in particular yellows seem quite weak. In addition, yellows have a slight greenish hue. I had to adjust the custom RGB settings to get to something that looked reasonably balanced. (Granted, my eye is not calibrated so I have no objective way to measure the color accuracy.) I also have not installed the HP drivers, it's possible that the colors might improve if I use their ICM file. I also tried the "warm" and "cool" color settings but found them way TOO warm/cool respectively.
The biggest issue I have is that there is quite a bit of light bleed in the lower right corner and along the right edge of the screen. It's really only noticeable if I have a black or very dark screen showing. I bought this for general office-type use and it should be fine for that, but I wouldn't really want to watch movies on this or use it for photo editing, etc.
As to physical characteristics, it'd be more convenient if it had an HDMI input--does that really add much cost in 2020? My last complaint relates to the positioning of the inputs low on the back side. If you are using a stiff, heavy DVI cable with a ferrite core, it doesn't work too well because it has to make a tight radius bend to go up into the DVI port on the monitor. This puts stress on the cable and stress on the monitor port as well.
Overall, if you just need a very cheap monitor, don't care about sound or image quality, go for it. Otherwise, spend more so you can get exactly what you want.
