How it works?

How UV water sterilizer purifier filter works kill the bacteria and microbe.

The ultraviolet (UV) treatment process is an extremely quick physical process. Ultraviolet light mutates and/or degrades DNA. When the DNA is damaged, the organism becomes unable to function because its “instructions” are garbled or missing. An organism that has no instructions cannot function and reproduce, and cannot cause infection. It is rendered harmless and eventually dies.

In the UV disinfection process, water is purified as it runs through a stainless steel chamber (also called a “reactor”) that contains a special UV- producing lamp. As the water flows past the lamp, the microbe in the water receive a lethal dose of UV.

HQUA UV Water Purifier is a water treatment device that needs to be assembled, but it’s easy to finish. Each part of it have its own function, we will introduce them hereby:

UV Reactor Chamber The UV chamber is made by 304 stainless steel, which was widely used in food industry, medical, considered to be stable and durable. Length-22.8 inch, diameter-2.5 inch, inlet/outlet 1/2”, no requirement of the water flow direction.	UV lamp & Quartz sleeve Quartz sleeve (HQUA-OWS-6Q) not only provide an interspace for the UV lamp, but also ensure high transmittance (90%) for the UV light. UV lamp (HQUA-OWS-6L, GPH565T5L standard 4-pin) provide enough UV light to destroy the DHA of the microbe and bacteria.	Electronic Ballast Electronic ballast (HQUA-OWS-455EB) connect the UV lamp and the power (120V/60Hz), work as a controller in the system with 3.2 ft. (100cm) power cord and 3ft. (90cm) lamp cord. Green light on ‘work’ means everything alright, red light blinks on ‘fault’ and the controller beeps when the system is failed. HQUA UV Lamp Life 365 Days Countdown Timer is optional for this controller. Search " B07MN2CCN5" to find it.

HQUA water sterilizer ensure a 99.99% reducing of bacteria and microbe in the water. The corresponding UV exposure is 30 mJ/cm². A slower flow rate, a higher wattage device or two sterilizer might be effective to handle a strong bacteria and microbe problem.

Installation and Maintenance

Easy installation and maintenance. No need for chemical supplement, the equipment is intended to be installed in the pipe system permanently. the lamp needs to be replaced annually and the quartz sleeve should be cleaned every 6-12 months, replace every 2 years.

Pre-treatment:

Water quality is extremely important for the optimum performance of your UV system. The following levels are recommended :

Iron < 0.3 ppm (0.3 mg/L)
Hardness< 7 gpg (120 mg/L)
Turbidity < 1 NTU
Manganese < 0.05 ppm (0.05 mg/L)
Tannins < 0.1 ppm (0.1 mg/L)
UV Transmittance> 75%

Hot Water Warning

The water in the chamber of this equipment can be very hot (Approx 140F) during an extended 4 hours of no water flowing. It's recommended to open the faucet until the hot water has been purged from the chamber. Keep human body away from the faucet during this time. Or install a 5 gallons water tank after the UV unit to reduce the temporary hot water.

Maintenance

UV lamp: Replace the UV lamp annually (or biennially if seasonal home use) to ensure maximum disinfection.
Quartz Sleeve: Clean the quartz sleeve every 6-12 months, replace every 24 months. The coating on the quartz sleeve will slowly form due to the minerals in the water. This coating must be removed because it reduces the amount of UV light reaching the water, thereby reducing disinfection performance. If the sleeve can not be cleaned, it must be replaced.

I installed this 25W UV sterilizer in my house. Directions were clear enough. No leaks. All parts were there. Customer service was excellent (I thought I was missing O rings and they sent some out immediately; I later found the missing O rings). As described by the seller, if the UV system is left on for extended periods of time with no water flowing, it can get warm. Mounting to a plywood board makes install easy.

I wanted to save energy, so I used a timer to shut the unit down late at night and I also used a cheap temperature controller (WILLHI WH1436A) to turn power off to the unit when no water was being used during the day and the unit started to heat up. By placing the temperature sensor at the inlet of the UV canister, the temperature drop of the cold incoming water turns the UV back on instantly when I do use water. It works perfectly.

Overall, a very good value.

I do not write reviews often but I felt compelled due to this particular situation. I wanted a UV filter light for my 125 gallon aquarium but I was not happy with the build quality/longevity of traditional aquarium UV filters. I did not like how they shorted out, leaked, or had low watts/capacity capabilities for larger aquarium tanks. So I got to thinking that this product would be beyond overkill and exactly what I needed in regards to watts and large water capabilities. After all, it is designed for your home.

I'm pleased to review I was correct in my theory! I had an extremely horrendous algae bloom. I could no longer see into my tank. I could not even tell if my fish were still alive! After installing, in less than twelve hours I could clearly make out my fish and other items in my tank. With traditional aquarium UV lights this phase usually takes about 24 hours.

Also, I was worried about my aquarium temperature rising. I researched, that water remaining at rest, with the light on, temps would average 140 degrees! Even with the water continuously moving I was concerned with temperatures exceeding 83 degrees. I am happy to review that this does not increase temperatures as long as the water remains flowing and I still need the use of my aquarium heaters.

I hope this review helps anyone who may consider using this product in lieu of a traditional aquarium UV filter.

Easy install but not sure it’s doing what it should

Was pretty easy to install- I also installed new filters and a spin filter using PEX for the first time and had to run back to the store a time or two for things that should have fit but didn’t—so it took me 2 days for all of it- and the light is lit up but the directions say that the water coming out should be hot and mine isn’t- it’s actually pretty cold- and I took some out for testing just after the filter and it still didn’t pass testing for bacteria- until I sanitized the well again. I do plan to take out the bulb I put in and try the second one and see if that makes any difference.
I did keep in mind the reviews that said to be careful with the o-rings and the tubing so I was extra careful with them.

Very nicely made unit. Quality stainless steel housing. Good installation instructions. Great customer service. I had a problem with a small crack in the quartz tube and there was a tiny leak that got inside the tube, wetting the bulb. I emailed customer service and got a reply overnight. They told me not to re-use the bulb as it may have water damage and sent me a new quartz tube and new bulb. They shipped it express and it was delivered on a Monday in 3 days.

Installation tip: the O-rings do not have a round cross section, but rather are beveled. They have a tendency to roll when sliding them onto the quartz tube,so may end up twisted. Inspect the O-rings carefully to make sure they are seated properly against the beveled opening in the housing and not twisted before screwing on the end caps. Don't assume everything will line up properly when you screw the end caps on.

I installed this a few weeks ago at my weekend property which is setup for rainwater collection and found it easy to install. The only issue was that the ballast green/red status lights did not work at all after plugging it in. I did pull the lamp out slightly to verify if it was lit or not and it was. Contacted the seller about the issue and two new ballasts were shipped to me immediately free of charge! You will always have issues with one product or another (that's just seems to be the norm for anything manufactured now days) but there is no substitute for great customer service when you do have a problem!

So far I believe this has been my best purchase with Amazon.

To add to this review the product started to hum so I contacted the seller they said in 1% this could happen and for me to ship product Back for texting and send it when I receive they new one. They wanted it to do testing to find out the problem.
I have never have better customer service in my life this is how it should be done.
This is the third u/v light I have used in my different houses and by far never will I buy another product to this one. Far superior in many ways.
