The authors have taken the time to give the reasons behind the functionality of the features and why they were included. This gives the reader a more complete understanding of the template and, therefore, confidence in applying & modifying the template to their own sites. In addition to the template tutorials there are numerous tips, links and resources for developing, debugging and optimizing your code.
If you can look at each line in the template and explain exactly what it exists, how it works & why it has it's current value, then you are en expert and you don't need this book. If your development team is using HTML5Boilerplate you should keep a copy of this book in the office for reference.
I first came across the book after reading a very positive review on CodeCanyon. I'm very pleased to have bought the book - and have found huge benefit even just from the first few chapters.
The two reviewers on this site who state that the material in the book is largely similar to what is available on GitHub are (a) entirely missing the point, and (b) not correct in that assertion.
Re point (b), I did look at at the Github repository, and although there is lots of great material there (much of it written by the author of this book, who is also one of the founders of HTML Boilerplate), it is not structured for beginners such as me. Also, there is lots of relevant information that is not in the official documentation but that is included in the book.
In short: this is a great book, totally recommended for intermediate-level web developers.
This is the short version:
If you're not an expert on modern web technology and want to learn how to use HTML5Boilerplate with all its option, go buy this book.
If you're an expert already you might also want to buy this book. I develop sites with H5BP since years but this book not only explains what functions or components do but why they are build in it and how you can extend the framework for specific use cases.
Surely you can read the online wiki of the boilerplate but this is not comparable.
And supporting the malaria foundation with the price of the book is a good thing, too.
Clearly I can only recommend this book to nearly everyone.
