Now i am trying different antennas to get a large increase in flifht distance. Around 1400 meeters the video starts breaking up.
Please do yourself a favor....if you are planning to purchase any Hubsan products DO NOT purchase any from Gearbest. I purchased the 109's little brother, the h501c, from Gearbest and it stopped working after 3 flights. Gearbest refusedbto repair it or replace it. You will save a few bucks but will get many headaches and no support at all.
Amazon will make sure you are happy with your purchase no matter what.
Had a small issue with the gimbal and miflydrone was awesome to deal with and resolved my issue quickly
Good luck and happy flying
1. The battery storage. It is under the drone with a trap door that snaps in place, sometimes. Once you put the battery in, plug it in to start the power, you would think a switch would have been provided to toggle the power, there isn't enough room for the door to easily snap shut. Sometimes when I land after flying, and not crashing, the door has opened on it's own. The wires haven't frayed yet, but I can tell they eventually will, just from the repeated plugging and unplugging to turn on and off the drone, plus the tight fit when bending the wires to fit in the bay while trying to close the door.
2. You have to use a screw driver to open the battery compartment of the transmitter to change the required 8 batteries, I have a 50 dollar drone that snaps shut to hold four batteries in the same fashion. However this issue is easily fixed if you use a little Velcro Tape to keep the door shut, or just use a strip of electrical tape. A note for you if you are considering this drone, instead of using 8 AA batteries in the transmitter, which won't last long. I would highly recommend RipaFire 11.1V 2200mAh 8C 3S Li-poly Li-Po RC Battery, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010N15P5U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
After charging and installing this battery in place of the 8 AA's, the transmitter shows they are at 10.9V after 5 hours of total use.
All in all it's an ok "Budget" drone, that is a little over priced.
3. The camera no longer rotates via the transmitter. At first it would rotate when It was within a 100 feet, then only before flight, now not at all with the transmitter.
In a two month period I searched quite a number of different Drone models, with pretty much the same features and relative costs. I came across this Hubsan H109s, and it seemed to have pretty much, everything I needed, plus a number of other trick features I though might be fun to experience when just playing around with it. It also had some good reviews.... at that time.
I put it on a 'Save and Compare' wish list, until I could decide. However, it was purchased and given to me as a present. I read everything I could about it, and watched quite a number of YouTube videos, before I even attempted the first flight.
I honestly couldn't gather enough information regarding the primary, basic steps in any written or vivid clarity. The videos were presented in poor tutorial quality. Focusing on the X4 in flight or the video it was taking. But, hardly anything on how the transmitter controls, switches and buttons operated in conjunction with the X4 response. Very vague and boring presentations.
And, if you were to rely on the Instruction Manual, and possessed any sympathy for the English language and the importance of proper grammar in translation, you soon realize you're, Manure outta Lucky Charms.
After charging all the batteries, spending about 10, PITA minutes trying to find the best position to place the battery connector to get the door to close, calibrating the transmitter mode and compass, I attempted my first take off. It fired up and nicely lifted, with the buzz of a thousand angry bees. Why it has a microphone is beyond me.
I understand the Parachute was discontinued due to the high altitude Crash and Burn ratio, compared to actual saves. Evidently, at an excessive tilt, perhaps an aggressive banked yaw turn, the parachute trigger would activate, entangling the streamers of the chute into the blades and creating an inevitable demise. So, all those disappointed buyers that didn't find the Parachute included, consider yourselves blessed.
I think the introduction of the parachute was a subtle prediction of your beginning flight outcome.
Another puzzling question, is why they still include, a waste of an extra expensive 'Smart Phone Gimbal'. Like crashing the X4 isn't damaging enough, include your $600 cell phone. I'm surprised they don't sell insurance too.
I suppose, in the future, when/if you become a more proficient pilot, and say, your spouse or someone forgets their cell phone, you have a convenient way to transport it to them? Until then, I'll just file it in my, 'Why Bore Hogs have Tits', box.
In the preference menu, I turned off Expert Mode, all sensitivity dropped to 60%. Although I have played video games on almost every type of console and controller made, flown RC planes and helicopters, I just wanted an uneventful flight. This Drone does not come with a Save and Reload option, so the consequence of error in Crash and Burn.
With more than enough Satellite connections, far from any magnetic fields, frequency interference and no wind or obstructions, the X4 danced the Skies on laughter plastic wings, wheeled and soared... and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of.
The GPS held steady, and was ready for Return to Home mode.
I must have been flying in the realm of a sacred burial ground. The Drone developed a G-fit and began to spin, circle and dart into every direction. As if possessed by an angry spirit. I turned all switches off and released the control sticks. But it continued a sporadic, drug related course into a suicidal, death dive.
I can only assume the Return to Home was operational. However, not to my coordinates. It must have been trying to return to its original home, and since it will not avoid any obstacles in its path, it made a direct course ....... back to China, which is directly on the opposite side of Earth.
Trying to converse with Customer Service for Hubsan, reveals the origin of the Instruction Manual translation. "Be sure you read manual, all answers there, be happy." Huh?
So, I disassembled the X4. Only to find some other involved party had a similar experience. The GPS sensor was reglued, pinched wires and some sloppy soldering work. I simply inherited a repackaged-return. At full retail price, as assumed New.
After three months, rewiring and replacing components, $$, I'm back in the sky again. Acceptable performance.
I am having issues with the FPV switching on video, recording...and taking still shots. The Manual, of course is very limited on the many switch and button configurations to perform all the cool things the marketing hype claims.
The Manual does tell how to turn on the camera, and the record button. "For more details, please refer to the tablet on page 18." There's not tablet on page 18. Only installation of the Battery and Transmitter Mode calibration.
However, on page 17, there is a Tablet, at the bottom, #16 and #17, the Exit and Enter Buttons:
"Exit settings: Shoot videos/take photos/play back when in camera mode."
"Enter settings:Controls camera mode: shoot videos, take photos, play back video/photos."
OK, maybe it's just me and a few hundred other lost souls, but they sound redundant to each other.
Customer Service Reply: " You push button, take video, push button take picture, be happy." Huh?
It would seem to me if a Company is set to make a million dollar product, why not spend a few hundred bucks and hire someone knowledgeable of the product, capable of translating into the language where the product may be purchased.
Lately, I've noticed that 4.5 Star rating has drastically dropped equally, with 1 and 2 star, reality reviews. Perhaps, most of these folks received the repackaged and returned models of the first frustrated consumers.
OK, just wanted to air my two-cents...... more like $650.00 worth.
BTW: I gave this only 2 stars. One, because of the incomprehensible instructions and poor customer service to an otherwise satisfactory product. And two, because of the time and cost. It is still less than any student loan, for an education and hands on experience, including entertainment, I've had to pay for.
Update: Got a Autel Robotics X-Star Premium 4K Quadcopter.......Awwwwesome.
And ...... two offers on the property.
