This thing can really take a beating. I have crashed it into walls, the dog, the truck, trees, dropped it forty feet after ignoring the low battery warning, and had the kids swat it out of the sky with a noodle after I was trying to land it on my daughter's head. The design where the legs "pop out" is a fantastic energy dissipator in crashes - just pop the legs back in and let er rip.
I already have it in my cart so that when - not if - I lose this one, I just have to order another one.
I have a Phantom 4 Advanced. It works great, but it's a much more distressing capital loss if it crashes, so I'm reluctant to use it to screw around with.
It's quick, nimble, and responsive, and I get about eight to ten minutes per charge.
Starting off, the controller had very low sensitivity right out of the box, and would constantly switch to headless mode, making it incredibly hard to fly. Multiple times I almost had this land on my roof, and sometimes I couldn't control it and it flew into a tree! It doesn't have one button take off or landing, no altitude hold (which would be VERY useful), and it takes a lot of damage from small crashes. One HUGE problem I had was that the propellers would randomly come off during flight, and send the entire drone crashing down in a windy blaze. You also can't fly this with any wind strong enough to move a pebble because it'll steal your drone! Do you wonder what happens if the drone goes out of range? Or if it looses battery 90 feet up? No warning, no noise. Just wait for your drone to crash down and hope that you can catch it. Also, the camera quality isn't what it was advertised as, and you have to turn the video on, from the actual drone (huge hassle, and drains battery faster).
If you aren't new to drones, and know how to fix these problems, or can handle all this, then this drone is GREAT for you. Otherwise, if your looking for a good camera drone that had tons of cool features that this one doesn't, then I'd suggest the Cheerwing CW4.
The break-away hinges in the arms are good for crash protection.
It is FAST!!! In basic mode it is still very quick and responsive. It can easily fly indoors. I took off the prop guard and flew outside in basic and expert modes. This thing screams!
The camera is a nice feature and the extra weight doesn't seem to hinder performance. You can get a version without a camera, though the relatively small additional cost may be worth it to you.
It has very bright blue and red LEDs for orientation.
The transmitter is simple and well-designed. It also feels like a quality product.
I have flown this with larger, 500 mAh batteries and it still performs well.
Extra parts and batteries are readily available.
The prop guard is nice and doesn't affect indoor performance much. I recommend keeping it on to save your walls and props. The only issue is with the design. It attaches to the tops of the motors. You need to be careful when taking it off so that the motors aren't pulled out. An included prop tool helps with that. You should also periodically check, especially after a crash, because that attach points of the prop guard can slide up into the bottom of the props restricting them from turning. It is a minor inconvenience, but worth it.
The props are press-fitted onto the motor shafts and come off fairly easy in a crash. This is good in that it protects the motors. Having extra props is good. Again, a minor inconvenience
This is a great quad. My Syma X11C is a great starter flyer and I would recommend it as well. This is similar though I feel the Hubsan is a progression from the Syma. It is more powerful and responsive and the extra weight improves stability, especially outdoors. It sounds like a swarm of hornets flying!! Definitely buy a crash pack with extra parts, lots of props and extra batteries.
I researched several Hubsans on Amazon and some reviews indicated that the customers received an cheap imitation quad. The packaging for those looked identical but did not have the Hubsan name on it. Mifly Drone is selling genuine Hubsan products.
I have a few quads and this one is probably my favorite.
Its small enough to operate in a house and we only take it out on nice calm days. It is light enough that a light breeze will push it slightly. Great little drone. And the camera works alright too. Nothing fancy no bells and whistles just a fun little toy. My ten year old son can fly this drone with little problems.
