5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy duty and works
By John Campbell on August 2, 2019
Pros: I love the product in general. This is my second purchase of this type of roller rail assembly for a sliding barn door that's actually made to be just what it says. In this application it becomes a window door instead of using curtains in the man cave/den. Package arrived well protected and sound. I've uploaded a picture of my near finished product for people to see.

Cons: The stop brackets supplied to go onto the rail are junk. Just get over that fact and proceed. The set screw design does not hold the bracket in place with the door repeatedly hitting it. It will slide on the rail. Also, the rollers have a nasty habit of hitting the bracket before the strap reaches the small rubber bumpers. This can destroy the rollers over time. I had the same problem with an earlier sliding barn door in the hallway and had to make adjustments accordingly. Have no fear, I have the fix.
The roller bracket rail mounted stops supplied, as well as the rest of the kit, are identical between some manufactures and I suspect this may be due to one company manufacturing the product, but selling it under different company names. No biggie.

General: You are dealing with a sliding barn door. If that's the theme you want then stick with that theme instead of trying to make it into a city dweller metro baloney design. Mine is a rustic/industrial theme. Stop brackets should be mounted to the wall, not the rail. Also, consider that plaster or sheetrock is not a good mount for anything so plan ahead. It crumbles under stress and a sliding barn door will supply stress. Plan on making wooden placards for mounting things so you have the placard mounted to the studs instead of sheetrock and then you can mount anything to the placards. Including mounting steel stop brackets. One inch thick boards (coming in at 3/4 inch actual thickness) or 3/4 inch hardwood plywood works well for this when mounting steel stop brackets.

Note that in the supplied photo all that's left to do is a coat of varnish or linseed oil for the wood and using a Testors flat black enamel paint pen to paint over the screw heads so it all matches. You can see the custom made steel stop brackets. Each has three holes for screws to mount to the wall. Each stop bracket is reinforced at the top so the stop bracket not only stops, it acts as a guide for the door at the end of travel and will never be bent by repeated use. In my application I already have 1x6 tongue & groove backed by 5/8s plywood behind it to mount to. Sheetrock screws work great for this. The wood you see at the top on the wall that the rail is mounted to and through is 40 year old pine from the time of it's milling. It's quite hard now, large knot and all. The boards act as the header spacing to match the thickness of the window frame wood.

In my application the door and the rail mounting are purposefully designed and built to be earthquake proof. This door has already been tested in our recent 7.1 earthquake centering in Ridgecrest California. It passed with flying colors.
If for any reason the door was to come off the rail, which is highly unlikely due to my own design in the mounting, the door safely slides down behind the 1 1/2 inch galvanized steel pipe mounted to the wall at the bottom instead of coming down on someone. This also acts as a guide so the bottom of the door does not swing outward into the room. My clearance on the door to galvanized pipe is 1/4 inch between them. You could likely get away with using one inch galvanized if you wish.
I did not use the plastic cams supplied that mount to the top of the door to prevent the door from being lifted off the rail. Instead I carefully measured distances and then drilled the mounting holes with tight tolerances for minimizing any slop for the bolt holes in the door to mount to the roller straps so that the door top barely clears the rail when hung. This means the door being lifted will hit the bottom of the rail before the rollers can clear the rail. If you mount this way be sure to note that you will have to first lay the roller straps onto the rail and then hang the door by raising it up to the right level and then putting the mounting bolts through. Plan ahead.

What you don't see in the picture is the side facing out towards the window and the outside. The frame is 1 1/2 in. steel angle iron at 1/8th inch thick. This houses the 1x6 tongue and grove and a 3/4 inch thick sheet of Maple hardwood plywood backing, furniture grade. The door slides along a wood window sill edge smoothly. If you do not have a wood window sill edge you can make a wood slide surface and attach it to the wall first before hanging. Pine will work fine for this.

The steel strap that makes the second bar where the bottom hole of the roller strap attaches is there for the purpose of hanger strength. This is heavy door. When drilling the holes for the bolts to mount through be sure to measure twice, drill once. You don't get a second chance at this. A spot on pilot hole is a must. The holes must be a snug fit for the bolts and at the right location to make it work. Not so tight you can't get them through, but zero to no slop either. I recommend using a drill press if possible, but mine was too small to allow me to handle such a frame on it so I did it with a battery powered drill instead. Remember, you are considering the space distance between the top of the door underneath the rail. Enjoy! :o)

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Buy!
By Dana on July 20, 2018
Great product. Essentially the same thing Lowe’s sells for double their price. Easy to install. Instructions are essentially just a diagram but easy enough to figure out with a little YouTube help. Works like a charm & turned out great. I did add 1x4 board cut to 6’8 and attached the hardware to that since I knew my studs wouldn’t like up with the hardware.

4.0 out of 5 stars Instructions are awful, hardware is good.
By ElleKR on March 17, 2021
I was surprised at how heavy and sturdy this was for the price. The kit included all the necessary hardware for installing the door, including anchors.
The parts that were terrible were the instructions. They were clearly not written by a native English speaker, which is not an issue. Nor were the measurements being in metric a problem, really.
The issue is that the measurements of where on the actual door to put the mounting bolts for the hangers was missing, so we needed to kind of guess. We ended up being off by about 1/4 to 1/2 inch, which isn't too big of a deal, but as a result, the door can easily be lifted off the track without rotating the little spacers that are meant to keep the door on.
I'm using it in an unfinished basement, because the barn door style is not my cup of tea (but so convenient for the space), but if you were into the whole modern farmhouse aesthetic, it would be a good value.

Pictured door is 40 x 84

5.0 out of 5 stars Quiet and Sleek
By A. Barnes on May 19, 2020
Great barn door kit! Holes didn’t line up with our studs so we had to add a header, which I actually ended up liking. Makes it look finished. Love our new barn doors! This kit slides nice and quiet. Great product. Definitely recommend!
