Quite possibly the best pillow I’ve ever slept on
on January 11, 2016
I have a pinched nerve in my neck. As a result I experience periodic back spasms. I recently started going to a chiropractor and one of the “exercises” that seem to provide immediate (albeit temporary) relief is the Cervical Dennerall. A Dennerall is a hard foam/plastic device that uses the weight of your head to help align the vertebra in your neck while you lay on it. It’s very unconformable and you only use it for about 5 to 10 minutes per session, but it’s effective.
While shopping for natural latex pillows I came across the HYPNOTIST Contoured pillow and immediately noticed the shape of the pillow is similar to the Dennerall. I knew the pillow wasn’t going to be hard like Dennerall, but I figured the contours in the pillow would help support my neck in the areas I need it most… and I couldn’t have been more right. I’ve had the pillow for about a week now and I am sleeping much better. I toss and turn much less and I don’t feel as stiff or sore when I awake. I recommend the pillow to anyone who wants/needs to try something different.
The only negative, and it’s a small one, is the fact that natural latex does have an odor. It’s not fair to call it outgassing because that implies the release of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and I don’t believe that’s the case since natural Talalay Latex doesn’t contain VOCs, but the pillow does have a distinct smell. It doesn’t bother me at all and it doesn’t fill the room. It’s just enough to notice while lying on the pillow. You might want to keep that in mind if you are extremely sensitive to smells.
15-JAN-2016 Update: My pillow still has that faint smell described above. Still not a deal breaker, but definitely noticeable. The interesting thing is my wife bought a latex pillow from a different company. Her pillow arrived yesterday and it doesn't have an odor at all. I'm not sure what to make of that, but I thought I would share.
