Hack Your Habits! The author of Hack Your Habits leads with a quote that grabbed my attention,'First, think results. Then get them with the least energy.’~Richard Koch and promises, " My simple, 9-step system bypasses motivational ups and downs, avoids willpower battles, and will get you to do what you need to do on autopilot.'

It all sounded good to me. So a dived in - ready to implement the 'no fluff' strategies.

Thanks to the Hack Your Habits strategy, I have began to develop a truly set-it-and-forget-it system that helped me achieve my goals faster, with less effort, and with the goal of achieving immediate results. I've begun to build a powerful, automated system to avoid the trap of modern day temptations, but also gives me strategies to deal with willpower battles and avoid motivational ups and downs.

A major goal I have already achieved is becoming more organised - no more wasting time trying to find things!

The accompanying FREE workbook, is a super helpful will guide through the steps outlined in Hack Your Habits and help me create my own, personalised Habit System - including setting up a dedicated "productivity' space with helpful prompts to help me stay focused.

As a trained psychiatrist and psychotherapist with nearly 20 years’ experience of helping people change their behaviour and their lives, the author (Joanne Jast) has a good understanding of human nature and the knowledge of what really works and what doesn't when it comes to behaviour change.

An excellent read. Highly recommended.

This is a well researched, well-written, and well-thought out book. The concepts are easy to understand on their own, but the author gives extensive and easy to follow explanations on habits, motivation, and willpower, and why they don't always help. I think someone that is experiencing a sense of being adrift will benefit greatly from reading this book. Following the steps set forth in the text can help many people understand that there is a difference between having a dream and having a goal, and will help them map out a path to reach the latter.

A simple and effective step by step guide to solving bad habits. I love how it takes a very realistic step by step approach. It is not preachy or unrealistic. It looks at bad habits as flaws that are solvable and part of the human condition. If you require a realistic guide to your fears and concerns, this is it.

Most books in the self-help genre simply focus on motivation. "Just want it bad enough!" and you'll succeed!

I love how the author takes a scientific approach in her books. Instead of trying to "pump you up," she carefully lays out proven methods that ACTUALLY help, as opposed to filling your head with fluff material.

Habits make or break your productivity, and until you know the deep psychological ties you have to habits, you can't fix them. This book WILL help you fix them.

Really appreciated the author's refreshing perspective on the topic of habit forming. I found plenty of practical ideas that I have put in place. The checklist and the idea about phone reminders that include a reward was genius. Good book. I recommend it.

When you are like me, you want to have good habits, you’ve tried to develop them, and failed many, many times. And then... you come across this book “Hack Your Habits” by Joanne Jast. It’s a blast!

Jast has a scientific background, and knows how to convince a simple habit failer like me that I do not need to fail. She describes how she struggled with habits herself, and how she learned what worked for her. Joanna Jast does not talk fairy tales!

My greatest “habit problems” for a long time have been around physical exercise, and procrastination. While I kept reading, I saw how I can overcome these problems. Putting this to practice has already benefited my health and productivity.

As you and I know, our motivation in itself never was “strong” enough to change our habits over time. There is no problem when our motives are less “lofty”, like being motivated by money or fame. It’s so important to stay straight and honest with yourself.
The author got me to get my motivation for a certain habit change clear, but she certainly does not stop there. She made crystal clear to me why I fail at exerting self-control in the first place. Plus she shows me how to circumvent every pitfall that till now has prevented me from effectively hacking my habits.

A lot of attention is given to the concept of willpower. Jast is ready to assume the worst - that willpower is limited - and from there looks at the best ways of dealing with this fact. One of her suggestions I found “dangerous” to hacking my habits. That is, when my willpower is “used up”, she suggests me to relax with my favorite, guilt-free pass-time. Well, those being sitting in the sun, reading on the internet, chatting on social media and so on... stopping with that type of relaxing activities takes...
