This is my first book by Melissa Kate & I truly enjoyed reading her work. Her story about Emma & Oliver had me laughing out loud more than once from the family banter with Oliver’s kin @ the dinner table. This was an enemy to lovers story is funny, cute & well worth reading. I look forward to reading more by Melissa Kate in the future.
I voluntarily reviewed a Net Gallery copy of this book.
We remember bakery owner Emma & police chief Oliver from the first book. They were, and still are, of course, best friends with Audrey and Adam. And now they’re finally getting their own story.
They’ve grown up together in the same neighborhood. They were besties until Oliver was 15 and found out his dad was a serial cheater. That’s when he decided that he would never have a chance for a HEA – it’s not in his DNA – so he became a manwhore. No cheating, no married people, but still a manwhore.
And now Oliver is 32 and Emma is 30. Time to grow up and fall for each other – thinks the whole town. Only those two are constantly fighting.
But of course it doesn’t take long until those sparks are flying like crazy. Especially when Oliver is always hanging around – because Audrey kind of accidentally won him at a charity auction – and now he has to do what she says! Too cute.
I really enjoyed the story. It was soo funny and sexy and adorable and a bit exciting and suspensy.
I loved how those two danced around each other. It was hilarious to see! Maybe it was a bit much sometimes. And then the end was a bit rushed – but pfff, I still loved reading it!
This was a really great romance with lots of amazing supporting characters – like the old people in town! LOL! And of course Adam and Aubrey and Oliver’s family. I loved them all!
I really loved this story. It has all a great romance needs. Nothing much to complain about ☺

Emma and Oliver have a past. One that was once light-hearted and fun that turned into teasing and detestation. The past held more bad memories for Oliver than good and had him convinced that he was his father’s son and not worthy of a friendship with Emma. Emma just knew that one day Oliver was her best friend and the next he wouldn’t even talk to her and became a manwhore. But, Oliver had his reasons and knew, if he ever told her, he would ruin the one good memory that he had from his childhood – his time with Emma. But, all it took was a conniving friend, $5000, an ex-boyfriend, a fall into the water, a moonlit night and a raid gone wrong that had Emma knowing that her heart always was and would always be with Oliver. Once the truth about the past comes out, Oliver knows that he may have lost the one good thing in his life and his heart with her.
Emma and Oliver were wonderful. Funny, sarcastic and caring, they were both the whole package and Melissa Kate did a fantastic job getting that across to the reader. She is a fresh, bright author that really knows how to show us that the line between love and hate is really thin. I loved the witty comebacks and the sexual banter between Oliver and Emma. Audrey and Adam were an added bonus. And, Oliver’s family and Margaret and her geriatric friends doing the Nae Nae made the circle complete. She moved the story along, gave us characters that you could love and cheer on, and built a story that had everything that you could hope for in a romantic comedy.
