The fabric from which these pants are constructed is a blend of cotton, polyester, and spandex. The fabric is sturdy, but not extremely heavy; a pair of 32" X 34" weighs about 1 lb. 2.5 oz. The fabric falls well and looks crisp; the straight front provides a more youthful look than a pleated front. As someone who used to sew, I gave the fabric the "crunch test" by balling up as much as I could in my fist. The fabric did show wrinkling and those wrinkles did not completely fall out when the pants were hung. Upon arriving at their destination, men who travel will find the pants' appearance is not as crisp as they might like. When the slacks are unpacked, there may be some unwanted rumbling or creasing.
The 1" deep leg hems of the "Haggar Men's Performance Slack" are top stitched. The hem's turn-under has a straight cut edge that shows on the outside of the pant leg; a pinked cut edge would have minimized this. If you wear an odd-numbered length, I recommend purchasing longer rather than shorter. If you try to lengthen the leg, the fabric from which these pants are constructed will not lose the bottom crease line. Further, the needle holes will not press out and while not extremely obvious at a distance are still unattractive up close.
The 34" waist is truly a 34" waist - there is no stretch or allowance for expansion. The outer waistband is cleanly finished; it was not top stitched.Read more ›
The material is very soft and comfortable, with sufficient give in the waist; the look of the fabric is nice as well, giving the item a quality 'nice casual' appearance. The ash color (a kind of very, very light gray) is a nice alternative to the ubiquitous khaki that seems to dominate casual slacks for men. It goes well with various colors of shirts.
I would definitely purchase these slacks in other colors and recommend them.
I'm an ironing freak. I only buy wrinkle-free these days and have come to learn there is no such thing. However, these are the closest I've found to that promise. Since buying my first pair I have bought several more. A big reason is the cut and semi-stretch material. While allowing for some give and ease of movement, the fabric still feels substantial and not like I'm an overweight ballet dancer wearing a leotard.
The cut of the legs is slightly narrower without looking ridiculously skinny. The rise is high enough to imply you have a butt without crowding the boys. These pants work great for casual business office settings and still look great worn with flip flops and a t-shirt.
I'm kind of hard on clothes and don't always change out when I get home and start on a project in the garage. I've gotten acrylic and oil paint and other random grime on them. I've hit spots with acetone, paint thinner, gasoline and Dawn dish soap as a final step every time to get spots out with success and haven't seen any fading. That was on khakis though so can't speak for darker colors. Note: Spot removal has to be done BEFORE washing and drying. I learned the hard way.
I'm not getting paid or free clothes for this endorsement.(but I'll take them Haggar. Hint, hint. :) I randomly bought a cheap pair and love them. Subsequently I've bought more. If your thinking about buying a pair I whole heartedly recommend you give them a try.
