A Message From Wade:
I have to admit I was a little skeptical of the whole “Filter Straw” craze. I then found a couple of practical reasons and uses to keep one handy. Water quality when I am out camping and tailgating, even from potable sources, can vary greatly. Water needs and usage also vary, especially if your group is like mine and contains lots of little ones. So an easy solution is to keep a filter straw in the truck. The straw is an inexpensive way to do just that.
The true usefulness comes out when you attach your straw to a 2L bottle or your hydration pack for quick filtering. I can set up camp or my dinner area and filter water all at the same time, from a stream or lake, or even from the public utility at the park. Whichever way I choose I get great tasting water.
The straw also works great for your preparedness shelf. We have all had to deal with our public water getting fouled and the various warnings that accompany these situations. Well, attach your straw to a hose from the sink, or use the 2L bottle and Hydration pack method and your water source is clean again. Or how about an inexpensive guarantee that your water storage is clean. Attach the straw to a small hose and filter what you need.

It's smaller than others I have tried and has some little bits that come with it, but it seems to work the same. I used some tap water because right now they are chlorinating it, and the water came out clear and fresh. I didn't smell or taste any chlorine as it came out. The straw is just the right size to fit in my purse. That way no matter where I go, exploring around the lake or the woods near by, I know I will always have a way to drink fresh water at all times.
*I RECEIVED THIS PRODUCT AT A DISCOUNTED PRICE (IN ORDER TO TRY IT AND REVIEW) THIS DOES NOT GUARANTEE A GOOD REVIEW OR CHANGE MY OPINION ON THE PRODUCT, I AM HONEST AND UNBIASED, ALL OPINIONS ON IT ARE MY OWN AND BASED ON THE PRODUCT ITSELF. I HAVE TRIED THIS MYSELF AND EVALUATED IT ACCORDINGLY
In full disclosure, I did receive this product at a discount in exchange for an honest review. I take this process seriously and only chose to review those items for which my family or I have a real use. I hope you have found this review helpful, as I aim to guide others in wisely spending their hard earned money.
I sent the filter and he was extremely excited. The filter is small enough to pack for a short trip as well as a long trip: 6 1/4 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide and weighs about 2.5 ounces. You can use the filter to drink directly from a stream or from a bottle. The unit comes 5 additional white filter pads and a with a secondary filter that you put into the bottom of the unit. The unit comes with a syringe to flush out the unit after using it to keep it clean. I think this unit will last a long time. The paperwork says it is good for almost 400 gallons!
I received this product at a discount for the purpose of testing and reviewing, but that has no bearing on my opinion. All of my comments are from my personal experience and are honest.
Tried this out on a hike up the Pfeiferhorn in the Wasatch mountains. I brought this, and a more traditional pump. There are trade offs and advantages of both.
Lightweight, which is great for backpacking
Small, also great for backpacking. Took me a bit to find it in my pack, because it's so compact :)
Fast... the traditional pump i had to get out, hook the hoses up, pump the water etc
Screws onto a bottle
There's some resistance when the water goes through the filter, kind of like drinking a thick shake.
You have to get on your belly, or screw it onto a bottle of the dirty water to drink from it.
