CPN10XCJ 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner

haier
works
A portable air conditioner is ideal for cooling a small room or office. With Fan, Cool, and Dehumidify modes, plus multiple speeds, this model is fully equipped to keep you cool and comfortable. Multi-positional air discharge at the top of the unit allows you to adjust the direction of the air flow into the room for maximum comfort.

3-in-1 Comfort
A Quick Mount Window Kit is included for exhausting the unit through any horizontal or vertical opening window, and fully-directional casters provide mobility. Maintenance is minimal with a slide-out washable mesh filter and Auto Evaporation technology that makes manual draining unnecessary.

Auto Evaporation
The Auto Evaporation feature provides uninterrupted cooling by eliminating the need to manually empty a water collection pan or bucket. Instead, condensation is continually exhausted through the window in the form of hot air and water vapor by way of the exhaust hose.

quickmount

How Does It Work?

1. Warm, humid air is drawn from the room into the portable air conditioner.

2. Humidity is pulled from the air and drops as water from the coils into the water collection area in the base of the air conditioner.

3. A turbine fan picks up the collected water and sprays it onto the hot condenser coil where it evaporates into water vapor.

4. The water vapor, along with the heat removed from the room is blown out of the discharge hose and passes out of the room through the included window kit.

5. Cooled air is then circulated throughout the room.

Easy Installation with the Quick Mount Window Kit
To work properly, portable air conditioners must be vented. The included window exhaust kit makes it easy to vent your portable air conditioner through standard horizontal or vertical-opening windows. The kit includes a window panel and adapter to fit to the dimensions of your window, along with exhaust hose and hose connector.

Convenient Control Features

24hour
24 Hour On/Off Timer
The timer function is an energy saving feature that allows you to easily program the air conditioner to turn on or off at preferred times.

Full-Function Remote Control
The full-function remote mirrors the unit's control panel, with buttons for power, temperature, fan speed, and mode selection. Store your remote in the built-in cradle on the front of the air conditioner unit for easy access and safe keeping.

Got this unit days ago and played with it. I have the 10000BTU AC and 9000BTU Heater as it is labeled.
However, don't get fooled by the Heating function. It is not a true heater at all!
I was thinking, this unit should have a extra heating board somewhere, when in heating mode, the compressor should stop working and system should be a lot quieter in heating mode when compressor is not working.

I was wrong. When in AC mode, the cool air is out from vent and warm hot air is out to exhaust. When in heating, the air flow just gets reversed, this time, the warm air (from compressor)is out from the vent and Cold air is out to exhaust.
I tried to make my point here, regardless cooling or heating mode, the compressor is always working! making the unit very noisy in heating mode because the unit blows the cold air out. It wastes a lot of energy and shortened compressor life.
To be fair, as a AC unit, it is very good and works well. dehumidifier also works (because it is part of AC system).

So if you try to buy a dual mode system thinking that can do both cooling and heating, don't waste your money. You can just buy a AC only unit with less money and save money to buy extra space heater used in winter.

I would believe other high BTU unit probably does the same way just higher in BTUs. But since I don't own any of those, just for your advice.

I bought this unit in June. I have used it almost every day since because I like to sleep in a cold room at night and lowering the zone heating to the level of my preference would make the whole upstairs too cold for our pets who are in the other rooms. As such, this AC runs non-stop for about 8-9 hours every day. And it works very well. It takes my 17 x 24 ft bedroom from 70F to 63F within about an hour or so. The rest of the zone is lowered to 67F for the night, so it doesn't really have to work too hard against the heater at this time of the year. The thermostat does a good job in maintaining the temp throughout the night, regardless of outdoor temps.

In the summertime, when the house has retained the heat of the sun, it will usually takes at least a couple of hours to get the heat down from around 80. We don't cool the upstairs during the day, as a rule, so the heat does tend to accumulate there.

The cycling of the compressor provides a nice white noise that helps me sleep, canceling out most of the sounds in the house that I tend to be hyper vigilant about otherwise.

The unit is well built overall, but has a few issues:
1. The window panel connection is terrible. The hose kept popping out of the panel at the slightest touch or pressure. I finally just wired the two together. What a relief! Now it's rock solid and I can move the main unit forward or backward to reach things behind it, or vacuum under it, without having to reassemble the window attachment each time.
2. The lit up little control panel on the front of the unit should power off its light when not in use. It gives off a very strong blue light that is bright enough to read by. In other words, it's not conducive to good sleeping.

Came undamaged and on time.

Fairly easy to set up.

The instructions say let it stand for 24 hours before use.

I have no doubt that this instruction should be followed.

Lubricants and liquids need the time to get back to where they belong after it has been moved and tipped before set up.

The unit seems to be working fine.

It doesn't have quite the capacity that I was hoping for, but probably not because it isn't working the way it is supposed to.

Make sure you consider where you can set it up before you buy this or any other type like this.

Make sure you have an electric outlet available close by.

Instructions say no extension cords, no plug adapters.

The electric cord and the exhaust tube are only as long as they are.

If you try to stretch the exhaust tube too much, you might have problems with it coming out on either end, so make sure you have a window close enough.

I would suggest insulating the exhaust hose if you have to use any significant length.

It vents hot air that heats the hose and it radiates back into the room

Also, make sure you have a circuit breaker that will handle the amount of power it will draw.

It is very quiet.

I use it in the bedroom and it's nowhere near loud enough to disturb my sleep

The installation was quick but that was where the good ends. I turned it on and after 15 min of operation it just blew 80 degree air. The unit never blew cold air in the 10 days that ive owned it. Haier hasn't returned one email ive sent and phone calls result in even more frustration. Im returning the unit tomorrow and getting something else. I hope others who purchase the unit have better luck or just steer clear of it.

This portable unit is pretty awesome in my opinion. It has wheels which is nice, but what makes it great is the ability to take a room from 98 degrees to under 80 in less than ten minutes, which I have done in my hot residence where a swamp cooler is my only other relief. It has four settings: cool, dehumidify, fan, and heat. It also has a vent and tube to set it up next to a window so the hot air released from the back doesnt counter the A/C. My place doesnt have the proper windows for that, but we crack a door open behind it which works just as good. It is a little loud, but that isnt an issue for us. I have it set up in a nexus between three rooms and it functions well in providing cool air for all three. However, when dedicated to one room, it is as good as any A/C unit. Anyways,

Enjoy!
