I had never heard of Haier Air Conditioners, and was desperate because of the heat. I paid 199.00 with 19 dollars shipping, opened the box and installed it in the window very easily. Outside temp was 92 with 90% humidity inside temp was 84 in my 23x 15 foot living room with 3 windows and 2 open doors. I put it in "Cool" mode set at 72 degrees. In 2 hours inside temp was 72 degrees with a flood of water pouring out the back of the AC to the outside.By the time "Dangerous Catch" came on in 4 hours, I had turned it down using the remote control to energy saver mode and it cycled on and off all night long keeping the inside temp between 74 and 71 degrees. I had read the horror stories about this unit and thought I might have made a mistake ordering it, but that was not the case. This AC works well, it's not very noisy, It has a pretty big room to cool with windows and open doors across the room from the unit and nothing is in it's favor but it was up to the task and did what it was supposed to do !!! It was shipped 1/2 the way across the country and I got it in 6 days. I may buy another 1 just like it after watching this 1 close for a week or two. The remote control is handy too because the unit is located behind a big computer desk making it hard to really touch the front controls.

Usually I don't post product reviews however I rely heavily on other peoples' opinion of a
product when i'm looking to make a purchase.
Yesterday I purchased this product from Walmart for several reasons.
Mainly because I have two 5000 BTU Haier air conditions purchased two
years ago that run year around and don't run up my electric bill nor trip
the breaker in my 120 year old house, also the packaging was impressive the box tells you everything, so i chose the 8000 btu because
the eer rating was 10.4 it covers up to 350 sf which is great and the price was less than $200. I also like that the vents rotate.
My bedroom was 95 degrees no kidding when we installed the a/c within
an hour it was down to 84 so I felt obligated to post to let others know
this a/c is a great buy for the price and will last thru many hot summers.

My window is on the left side of the wall. I knew before buying that Haier units tend to broadcast air better to the right (most other brands to the left). (Helps to read Consumer Reports). The unit cools faster and better than any unit I've used before. It is a touch louder, though. The thermostat seems to read the temp of air after it is pulled back into the intake so if the fan cycles off it will be off a few degrees. As soon as the fan restarts the temp reading will immediately readjust. It does a fine job of cooling a difficult room. If you need a quiet unit or one that cools more towards the left, pick another brand. It was under 100 bucks on clearance at a local big box store, so I'm very happy.

This is one of two units I currently use in my home. It was given to me brand new by a friend who had won it. I see it is available for around $180 online. The other air conditioner is also an 8000 btu window unit, but it is made by Danby. When I installed the Haier I noticed that the side curtains didn't seem to seal as well as my other unit. The adjustable vent is downright garbage; very flimsy! The remote has an internal magnet which I think is a nice touch if you want to hang it on your refrigerator. However, when I turned the unit on the first thing I noticed was excessive noise. It is much louder than my Danby. According to the owner's manual the high pitched noise I hear is the "high efficiency compressor" . The Danby has the same BTU output, and the same SEER rating yet does not emit an obnoxious whine. Also the thermostat does not work correctly. Getting the unit to keep the room at the desired temperature is an interesting game. Since I didn't buy it I will keep it, but if I had advice for the prospective buyer it would be this: Buy the Danby DAC8010e. Better Quality, better controls, better value.

Beyond that this unit is very loud both inside and outside and causes window and wall to vibrate and shake. Major issues with mold! - I first noticed what I thought was just dirt outside through the vents. Over the winter we covered it up to help keep house warm - when we uncovered it the unit's "dirt" which was visible through the air out vents seemed more than I remembered. Still thinking it was dirt (stupidly)... we pulled it to clean it it before using it~ it was not dirt! It was mold - massive amounts of mold through out the entire path from outside to inside where cold air would vent into your room. I have no idea now how long we may have breathed the dirt/mold but honestly am scared of the health problems it may have caused us. We also discovered when we pulled it that it was putting water down into the wall.
So mold, ruined paneling..VERY LOUD! DO NOT RECOMMEND!

I'm not sure if all the units are the same but mine came without the metal piece that screws on top enabling the plastic piece to slide in and out. This prevents proper support to the window when closed down and the plastic is fragile and has already cracked. Also there's no drain hole. I had to remove the two screws at the back at the bottom in order to drain the water. Its almost impossible to drain holes without damaging some internal parts. Other than that the unit works well.
