The author does an amazing job of "painting the picture" as well. Each setting is described down to the adornments at the end of the driveways, but it's not done in a way that bores you or bogs down the story. The story arcs are satisfying and well-planned too; I liked that the book involved an adventure with all of the Wilde sisters and their individual adventures as well. It left me satisfied with what I read, while still wanting to read more about their other shenanigans.
There was so much in this book, not just because it’s actually two stories in one edition. The detail is just immense. At some points, it does get pretty dense. The fight scenes, in particular, are laid out in such meticulous detail that I sometimes had a hard time following along because of so much detail. It was difficult, for example, to follow along in the fight scene with Cassie in the “whaling room” when so many different weapons and instruments were used and described and every single move by each character was laid out. It bogged down the flow of the scene a bit to mention even which hand was striking or leg kicking out. The scene with Lijuan in the cave and the one with the cattle stampede and the rustlers, too, were also very dense with detail. It’s obvious the author had a very clear picture in mind and wanted the reader to see it play out exactly that way, so the attention to those details is commendable.
I feel that it could have been edited down a bit without losing comprehension, though. There were also many run on sentences or grammatical and punctuation errors. Commas could’ve come in handy in many spots as well as attention to where quotation marks shouldn’t have been. So, it could still use some good editing and reworking of some sentences. But, if you just read and keep plowing through, the overall idea comes through, even if it could be simplified a bit.
I really loved that the author made such a rich backstory for every character. It was interesting to find out exactly how four girls from completely different ethnicities found themselves as half sisters, along with having two half brothers who were different ethnicities than any of them, too. I would hope that more of the half brothers would be mentioned in future books.
And, it appears there are plenty more stories to come with the note at the end for how many books are already projected for the series. I think I would like to continue the series. The action scenes are very intense and you find yourself wondering, how in the world is Lijuan going to get out of the cave or how will Carrie get away from Ma Frenwick or how will they all get out of the burning ghost town alive? (I’m glad he cat survived and went with them.) The sex scenes also do not disappoint. If you’re looking for detail, it’s ALL laid out. Each woman has a different conquest in this book and each is unique to the character and steamy.
If you can look past the grammatical issues, this book was wildly entertaining, fun, gripping, and well thought out.
I'm glad I did, it was a great read. It had everything one would expect in a western plus a bit more. What set it apart was the four half sisters of different races, kicking butt. I really loved the sister Lijuan who was almost an anti hero.
All in all it was a great read.
I wouldn't be surprised if they were related to Chuck Norris. lol. It is this type of story.
Personally I loved it and, if you are a fan of Girl Power mixed with some adventure, intrigue, sex and more, then I think you will love it too.
