Actually, I thought I had a clue. I thought this was going to be a sexy love story and don’t get me wrong... it had sexy in it. But it had suspense, mystery, thriller, romance. Everything. This book has everything.
When we first meet Amelia, I liked her from the beginning. I loved how she described her experience with Ella Valentine. Like “bish, get over yourself and move on, Ella dear”. (My words, but ya get the picture!)
Amelia was a chick I immediately liked though I kinda disliked Logan immediately only to swoon over him eventually. But at first, I was all swoon-y over Travis. I loved that Amelia ,or Mae as her friends call her, is feisty and wants to be more than “daddy’s rich little girl”. And she’s Mexican so yeah... every time there’s a Latina character, I smile. Because hey, representation matters and all that.
Okay, back to the writing. You guys, just when you think you’re figuring it out, don’t kid yourself. You’re really not. I’m not saying more on that except that my friend Rea said this book was an experience and you guys, she’s absolutely CORRECT. It’s an experience like no other.
Claire did an amazing job in placing me at Ellis University, at the Lab, at the coffee shop, etc. Her descriptive writing was immaculate and this is Claire at her best.
Again, I’m a huge fan of Claire but I don’t believe we’ve ever seen this magic from her. I can’t wait to read more from this world she’s given us. Also, I want to travel with her to the east coast if she goes for “writing inspiration”. I volunteer as tribute.
I suck at reviews. I’m so intimidated by them. There are those that leave you breathless with their reviews and then there’s me.
But I hope I did this book justice by telling you how I felt reading it without spoiling anything for you and telling you why I found it FIVE STAR WORTHY! Claire, can I get a story on Lincoln or Nolan like... ASAP? 😬🙌🏽
Ps: LOGAN IS MINE!
1. Secret societies where people walk around in the open in cloaks????
2. Mae never seems to go to class but she's at an ivy league university
3. In fear she crashes at the apartment of the guy she hates who is into threesomes. How convenient oh and Stupid!
4. She went to high school with the girl who disappeared but later she says she went to high school on Mexico.
5. She's rich but doesn't own a car and has to takes an uber to scary, mysterious locations in the middle of the night.
6. Do I really need to continue??? $5???
Amelia is the new girl on campus. It’s her senior year and after breaking up with her boyfriend, she’s transferred to a new college. Her pursuit is journalism, so her focus is getting a job at the school paper.
Never did she plan to take on sports reporting but being the newbie, that’s the job offered. Now she’ll be up close and personal with Logan. He’s headed to the NHL and treated like royalty on campus. He has no shortage of bedmates, but doesn’t do relationships. Pursuing the new girl has become his mission and age’s not about to make it easy.
Amelia had wanted to do some investigative reporting because a girl on campus is missing. The girl disappeared without a trace and no one seems to be looking for her. Amelia wants the truth, but no one is talking.
A secret society recruitment provides opportunity and all their hidden depravity comes to light. You won’t see it coming.
I was totally captivated by this story. I am a fan of secret society’s and hot manwhores who turn into smitten boyfriends. There was intrigue and intense chemistry. Logan and Amelia had an amazing connection and you felt their intensity! I had strong feelings about her side characters, whether it was love or hate. I will definitely be coming back for more!
However this book just didn't pan out for me. Some of the things to do with the secret societies, including locations and founders was just too over the top. I had a problem with Amelia because as a one percent from a filthy rich family, she seems to spend a lot of time discussing her clothing and her privilege in her inner monologues and since it's told from her POV, often what she says she's thinking is opposite to what she actually does. I really wanted to be full in on this book and was really hoping the mystery would be a wild and crazy ride, but most of it I already figured out way before it happened and what I didn't know never gets explained in the book. And that was a big problem for me.
Half Truths may be the first in the Secret Society Series but it's also a standalone as far as the couple of Amelia and Logan and, as a result, I thought that I would be given answers to close this book out. Instead I was left with more questions than answers and so I felt gypped reading it as if the author had tied up this couple but left a bunch of holes in the book.
Still, there were intriguing aspects to it and the premise was promising so I'll give it 3 stars. Will I read the next book? Probably yes. Will I wait with baited breath? No, not at all.

It had intrigue, chemistry, great character development, the plot had me hooked from page one! Can’t wait for book 2.
Nothing is as it seems 😏, don’t know about others but I got The Skulls (Joshua Jackson & Paul Walker movie) vibes with all the college secret society. Just plan awesomeness!!!
Logan Fitzgerald is the big man on campus as the star hockey player of Ellis University! He’s rather arrogant and from his first meeting with Amelia, the animosity is palpable between them. He surely likes to provoke the young woman with sexy innuendos then turns cold and distant. I’ll admit that I enjoyed this mischievous side of him, but the real man is even more appealing! Fitz is truly protective and caring! He develops romantic feelings for Amelia that had me melting for him!
Mae is so much more than a rich, superficial girl! She’s ambitious, fearless and determined to seek answers about the mysterious cloaked people wandering on campus. She embarks on a quest for answers about the strange disappearance of a fellow student and her brother accident, where everything seems to be related with the secret societies. The more she searches, the more she’s linked to Fitz and their relationship evolves into something meaningful! But she also enters a secretive, dark, privileged world! Strange things happen forging a gripping, obscure ambiance that had me grasping for air at all the shocking revelations!
I just couldn’t put this book down! I needed to get answers as much as Mae! The chemistry between the main couple was amazing and their interactions very entertaining and sweet! The supporting characters also brought some questions and suspicious events! Claire Contreras utterly captivated me with Half Truths! It was everything I wanted and more! I’m so excited for more from this Secret Society standalone novels!!!
