About the Author

Cardeno C.—CC to friends—is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few awwws into a reader’s day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. This book can absolutely be read stand alone; the Family series is about the story’s theme not the characters; if you love gay romance where the men are meant to be together; where you can feel the attraction through the pages then I highly recommend you 1-click The Half of Us now!

The Half of Us is the story of heart surgeon Dr Jason Garcia; yes think ego and Abe Green; I will not tell you Abe’s profession because the how this ties into the story was too much fun experiencing while reading it; so I don’t want ruin it for the reader.

I loved that I got to know these men while they got to know each other; CC bonded these men with rich dialogue, dialogue that came as Jason slowly opened up to Abe.

Witnessing Abe opening up in the bedroom, feeling so comfortable with Jason was hot and endearing. You think Abe is the shy one to Jason big personality but was they come together Abe’s opening up makes him even more desirable to Jason (and the reader).

I adored how the changes in Jason were because of Jason, Abe never pushed. Jason wanted Abe, he wanted to be more for Abe; he wanted to be with Abe and he slowly made more and more room for Abe in his live.

The use of Jason’s cousin Asher and ex-wife to get Jason to embrace what was happening between he and Abe was really well done.
And Jason’s children played pivotal roles in this story a story about a Dad, a man who was so alone, alone until Jason opens his heart to Abe. Jason’s opening up allows him to see all he was missing in his life.

Jason’s journey was so powerful, in the end he knows he wants Abe in his life and he starts to fear what if Abe does not want this; this is such growth for Jason!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review through Wicked Reads.

I loved this book! So far I have enjoyed all of the books in this series, but this one is by far my favorite.
Jason Garcia spent his young adult days playing by the book. He went against his true nature and lived the way he was taught to, but eventually he lost the battle. He's gay and no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't pretend anymore. When he and his wife divorce he thinks that his chance at love, family, and forever are over so he sticks to an arrogant attitude, work-a-holic, and one night stand attitude.
Abe Green is the guy next door. He's cute, sweet, friendly, and caring, He's a teacher and all around fun loving guy. He has his values and he's comfortable with his lifestyle. He takes things slow and he knows what he wants.
When their paths cross and Abe decides to give in to a night of spontaneity they both have an amazing night and realize that it isn't enough. Soon enough that one night turn into more and Abe realizes that his his heart is involved. Jason is afraid. He isn't sure anything can really work and he's afraid of failing. Can Abe's loving, supportive ways convince Jason that forever can be a reality for them?
I read this one in no time because I couldn't put it down. Jason and Abe's romance is sweet, emotional, and real. They are hilarious together and the chemistry between them is great. With the blended family dynamic, this story is well rounded and very entertaining. This is one I will probably go back and re-read. I would recommend this to M/M reader who love a fun, sweet romance story. I look forward to more by Cardeno C.

It's strange that "A Contemporary Gay Romance" is the subtitle of this book, because except for the obviously required differences, most of it reads like a very traditional romance with traditional gender stereotypes. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was adapted from an old male/female story. The relationship between the two male characters included a lot of what always frustrates me in traditional romances, including the "eternally, angelically supportive" female character rushing to fix her/his man dinner after the man's terribly hard day (no, or little mention of her/his full day at work), asking about her/his man's hard day and the man not reciprocating, and using sex to soften him up before discussions in which she/he wants to convince the man of something. These types of things didn't always happen, but they did quite a lot, along with other sterotypical romance behaviors I won't bother to list. One of the reasons I like reading gay romances, which seem to be almost exclusively written, and read(?), by women is to avoid the nearly everpresent gender stereotyping in male/female romances, so this book was an unpleasant surprise. Gay romance has plenty of stereotypes of course, but I enjoy the books where they either don't seem to be there, or aren't so obvious. If you're happy with traditional male/female romances, you might like this better than I did.

This is a great story of a blended family and opposites attract.

Heart surgeon, Jason is arrogant and short tempered. Jason was raised in a close knit family and believes his dreams of the all american family died with his divorce. Since his familial dreams are up in smoke he is only looking for a hook-up, never seeing the same person twice.

Abe is a school teacher, sweet and looking for Mr. Forever, not Mr. One Night. He hasn't been with anyone in three years because he can't be see being with someone when he can't see forever.

Jason sees Abe at a bar and propositions him. Abe, drawn to Jason agrees to one night as a birthday present to himself. After that night Jason can't get Abe out of his mind and uncharacteristically seeks him out again.

Jason has managed to compartmentalize is life to keep his kids and his sex life separate. Now if he wants Abe to be a part of his life he needs to find a balance between the two.

I love how strong and sweet Abe it. He's nice without letting Jason walk all over him. The relationship Abe and Jason have with Jason's ex-wife adds a sweet and funny element to the story. I really enjoyed this one.
