|Warranty Description||This warranty covers any defects in materials or workmanship. If one of our knives ever breaks or fails because of material or manufacturing defect, we'll repair or replace the knife. This warranty runs as long as you own your knife. Coverage ends if you sell or otherwise transfer the knife to someone else, or if your CRKT knife is modified in any way. This warranty does not cover breakage or failure due to misuse of the knife. Knives as good as ours rarely break or fail because of a defect. Usually they break or fail from what we call "tool abuse"-using them for unsuitable tasks like prying or pounding. Therefore, blade tip breakage is not covered by our warranty. Use of a knife for any purpose other than cutting voids the warranty. (The exceptions to this caution are the A.B.C. Aqua and MAK-1 Multiple Access Knife which have tips designed specifically for prying.) So please match the tool to the task, and use your knife only for cutting. The knife will last longer, and you'll be safer too. This warranty does not cover failure of mechanisms due to your failure to properly maintain them. Also, consequential and incidental damages are not recoverable under this warranty. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of consequential damages, so this exclusion or limitation may not apply to you. Misuse of your knife can cause serious injury or even death. It can also cause your knife to break or fail and the CRKT limited lifetime warranty will not apply. Failure to properly maintain your knife also may cause its mechanisms to not function properly, which could result in injury to you or damage to the knife. Follow the do's and don'ts which are included in your CRKT knife package and the knife will last longer and you'll be safer too.|

In Depth Look
You Won’t Need to Call Out in the Jungle. But the Brush Will Cry Mercy.
With a generous sized blade, comfortable handle and reinforced nylon sheath, this is the survival parang to use when you are your own rescue party.
The Halfachance is a beefy fixed blade survival parang designed by award-winning custom knifemaker Ken Onion of Kaneohe, HI to be tough, strong and work like an ox. A thick, carbon steel blade has a black powder coat that is durable in extreme environments. Built for hard use, it easily takes an edge in the field after you’ve finished cutting yourself out of the depths of the jungle.
Half the battle in any survival situation is with your own physical exhaustion. To combat that, the double injection molded handle is ergonomically designed to reduce hand fatigue and features multiple lanyard holes for varied grip options. The result is more efficient slicing action when you need to cut your own path. Literally.
This parang includes a reinforced nylon sheath with a unique velcro belt loop system that can be changed between two positions: dangling or snug against the belt. An extra paracord fob comes laced onto the sheath for emergencies or lashing this parang to a pack, truck, or pack mule.
Reach for the blade that brings you home safely—even when you have only Halfachance of survival.

1. The grip. Very firm, good form and the hollow pins are great.
2. The sheath. Super versatile, secure and just cool.
3. The blade. The shape is great. It's pretty sharp on arrival.
4. The look. It's just a great looking knife.
5. Performance. It hacks through brush, small trees etc. with relative ease.
Things I really dislike about this knife:
1. On my first "real" trek into the woods with it, it broke right in half when chopping. It was eating right through anything in my way when *snap*. Upon investigation of the break, the powder coating had found its way down into the steel. Makes me think there was a hairline crack in the steel before it was even powder coated. (see photo)
Things I'm not sure of yet:
1. CRKT customer service. I'll keep this review updated as I speak with CRKT about this product. It appears to me that this was defective and not reflective of the actual quality of this knife. Let's see what CRKT thinks.
I've heard from CRKT and at this point they agree to send me a new one! If it all pans out, I'll post a new update. At this point, I'm updating to 2 stars until I have a final verdict.
They sent me a new knife no questions asked. While this was a pretty significant failure, the customer service was spot on, they owned up to the failure of the blade and sent a new one right away. Updating to three stars since the blade did fail so dramatically, but customer service was excellent. Just can't give four stars to a knife that snapped in half regardless of the service. :)
In the end I can recommend the knife. I think I just got a defective one to snap in half like that!
The angle of the handle is great, and makes that sweet spot on the belly just slice like it was butter I was cutting.
I put a fine, sharp edge on it, and it stil has it, but the steel and the black coating seem to hold up very well.
I'd recommend this to anyone loooking for a really good machete! Not a 5 pound sharpened pry bar, but for what it is, it does it well!
UPDATE: After using this for a few months, and lightly at that, I am quite surprised what a piece of junk it is. At first, it seemed really nice, BUT.. in the handle, the holes were so offset, on several, a lanyard would not even go through. To make it worse, when I tried to drill one out, thinking they were ferruls or hollow rivets that went through the tang, they started falling out, and they were actually little grommets just pressed into the rubber handle on each side, which explains why they didn't line up. Garbage. I'm sure, under more rowdy use, they'd start loosening up...
Reminds me of some cheap Chinese crap... oh, wait.. it IS some cheap Chinese crap!
It is really dissappointing to see Columbia River get ahold of a really nice design, and make it really cheap and flaky.
Not the end of the world. I'll use it for what it is, and give it the respect it deserves, which is NOT that of a real Ken Onion knife.
The blade is very sturdy, I would not use this to hack away at wood as you would a hatchet or axe. So if you need some wood cut grab an axe or you are going to exert a lot of energy.
The blade was not that sharp out of the box, but that is a common thing with most blades.
