Haline is completely engrossing. First and foremost, Sundeep Ahuja does a wonderful job in terms of pacing, suspense, and character development. At the same time, his novel is scientifically sound- I was impressed by how well researched the novel's setting was. This would be great for fans of Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. The depressing realism coupled with the hopefulness felt by a few main characters in this novel really makes the reader question his or her own environment and what he or she is doing or not doing to preserve Mother Earth.

I would say that the greatest quality of the novel, is the fact that, it is a TOTAL page-turner. It's very action-packed! I had to read the entire book in one sitting. After reading the first two chapters, I was completely hooked. It's a perfect book for someone who likes dystopian books like Fahrenheit 451, 1984 or Animal House. It's also great for anyone who loved The Hunger Games, Divergent, and Ender's Game. Also great for people who like to read sci-fi... I'm talking about people who enjoyed Margaret Atwood or Hugh Howey. It's a great books for adults to read. It's also perfect for teens and young adults. If you're a parent who wants your children to learn more about the environment, this is a wonderful book to ease them into an exciting story that will make them want to read more.

I highly recommend this book. It's a MUST read!

I loved the characters in this book. It took me about 30 pages to get into it and figure out the flow, but once I was in, I really fell in love with the protagonist and felt myself sucked in. By the time I was halfway through, I couldn't put the book (Kindle) down and wanted to stop going to work to finish it :)

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan of the "Super Science Fiction" where there are superfluous insertions of technology just for the sake of technology with the intent of "wow-ing" the reader; so I especially appreciated that here. As a book about the future, there were certainly comments about transportation, communication technology but not in the techno-obsessed manner of some authors--especially first-time authors.

Overall, loved it and looking forward to the next one.

Talk about a seat-gripping, fascinating story! I forgot to bring my Kindle for a cross-country plane ride. So, I decided to start reading Haline on my iPhone thinking that I would finish it at home on my Kindle. I couldn't stop reading the book on my iPhone because it was so riveting and finished it during my flight. The beginning was a little confusing to me as the story jumped around a bit with flashbacks, but it doesn't take long for everything to come together with exhilarating twists in the plot. While the likelihood of our future becoming like the society portrayed in Haline is slim, the important message of humanity's impact on climate change is very real. I appreciate Sundeep Ahuja's fiction narrative to keep us aware of this important issue.

Can't wait for the sequel to come out!

While Haline starts in a flurry of switching back and forth between characters, just in time you're hooked and pulled quickly through the rest of the novel. Ahuja takes you through a series of glimpes of the life around his characters - a controlled world where the surface and the reality are quite distinct, and there's an even deeper reality lurking.

You've have seen some of the themes before in Mieville, in the Hunger Games trilogy, in Paolo Bacigalupi, in the Silo series. But they mix well here to create a construct that's unique, and the author fills it with characters that you're just getting to know (and want to know more) by the finish.

I enjoyed the subtle message that makes you think about a future that could happen after climate change. I'm hoping future books in this series will delve deeper into this theme, even just the subtle hints about it were super interesting.

If you like sci-fi even a little bit, read Haline - you'll enjoy it.
