By M. J. Smith VINE VOICE on November 11, 2000
Format: Audio CD
J. D. Sumner has a deep bass voice which is used both as an excellent musical voice and as an audience hook - playing with his low end range. Stamps is a major name in training Southern Gospel Male Quartets and printing music for them. This collection includes the full range from memorable performances to merely competent i.e. other quartets have recorded more memorable versions. However, the collection is a very important addition to the available recordings illustrating the development of the Southern White Gospel style.
Vol 1. contains I've got to walk that lonesome road; Roll on Jordan; Smooth sailing; I just steal away and pray; What kind of a church; The farmer and the Lord; The rainbow of love; At Calvary; The Sweetest words He ever said; I'm gonna serve the Lord today; You gotta pay as you can; If you know the Lord; How great Thou are. The Farmer and the Lord, I Just Steal Away and Pray and The Sweetest Words He Ever Said are the most memorable.
Vol 2. contains Give the world a smil; I'll have a new song; My dearest friend; Victory Road; I believe; His love; The walls of Jericho; Lord give us vitory; The old country church; The shadow of His love; Swing low, sweet chariot; Peace in the Valley. Victory Road and The Walls of Jericho are the most memorable. If you aren't familiar with the Blackwood Brothers' version of The Old Country Church beside which this rendition pales, you will find this an excellent cut.

If you love J.D. like I do you must have this one. I really enjoy listening to J.D.'s deep voice. There is no way I could choose my favorite song, there are just too many and I loved them all.

This not about the music or something but about what's being advertised and what you eventually get in your mailbox. Turned out that I received absolutely not the product I was expecting and waiting to get.

The Track Listings here show two CDs with 25 songs. Product Description has only one CD. What arrived was a single CD labelled "Volume Two" (so not the 2 CD compilation). Moreover, the CD case and booklet has track listings of the songs that are on the 2nd CD of the compilation (where the "Voluma Two" comes from I guess) with the actual CD is entitled "Volume One" and accordingly has the songs that are supposed to be on the 1st CD of the compilation on it. The price was 25 USD. The invoice also has information only about "Hall of Fame Series". No "Volume Two".

Don't buy this.
