Told in alternating chapters of the present day, and seven Christmas’ ago we get to see how Rowdy, Dax and Ava began, and how far they’ve come in the years in-between Without giving spoilers of the first book, I didn’t get enough of Rowdy then and I really appreciate getting to see him back when he first took in a frightened young woman and gave her a chance at a new life.
There might have been tears shed, of the happy sort, there definitely were chuckles, and a very warm emotional feeling to this story that celebrates not only where Dax and Ava are today, but also how they started – with the extra touches of knowing that they always did have feelings that were so well hidden from each other. I enjoyed this story very much, and consider it a Christmas gift from Ms Leah to her readers who always want to know more. Indulge yourself with this one and enjoy.
I own a Kindle edition of this story.
This quote says a lot about this story. A novella by Shannon Leah, it is a Christmas continuation of her novel, Dax, Bad Boys of Willow Valley. If you haven’t read that one, I highly recommend it!
Rowdy, the patriarch of the family, and much loved Valley Fire Chief has recently died and now its the first Christmas without him.
(Be sure to bring extra tissues to use while reading this.novella. It brings all the feels to you.)
Dax reflects on the past, Christmas traditions, his parents traditions and new traditions that developed with the introduction of Ava Anderson and her daughter Olivia. Into their lives. Dax has finally come around to accepting Ava and little Olivia, with whom he now shares ownership of he and his fathers garage. In this short story Dax slips back and forth between the present and the past and realizes that his father knew so much more than Dax gave him credit for, including a life with a committed relationship and the hope for a family of his own.
Much of the story revolves around a Christmas Box that has long held special momentos and traditions tied to it. This year it will culminate it one more bigger tradition that will give Dax everything that he and Ava didn’t even realize that they wer looking for! This is a heartwarming tale that brings family, (not just a cookie cutter one), love, feelings and traditions together in a memorable tale. I hope that readers enjoy it as much as I did.
This is a Dax and Ava Christmas novella which made me happy because I was wanting more of their story after reading Dax. This is a past and present Christmas story. It provides some nice flashbacks to the year Ava came to live with Rowdy and how she brought his holiday spirit back which he lost after his wife died. The present time is the new traditions that Dax and Ava are trying to make together. Both feature a special Christmas box that just happens to be important to both of the men though for different reasons. The blend of old and new traditions shows how time moves on but the past came be made a part of it. This is a feel good holiday story that will really get you into the spirit of the season. I highly recommend it to all. I loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
