It's hard to compare the throw, but they are definitely brighter and whiter, such that they now match the stock LED DRL (daytime running lights). The first pic demonstrates the difference between the stock halogen (left) and the new LED (right).
Completely satisfied so far, but I will update this review if problems arise.
I am amending my original review (below) because I found a detail.
These lights are in fact much brighter than halogens, and the light is excellent! What happened was that the installation in my fog lights was turned 90 degrees. The led elements were pointing up and down, instead of side to side. So the light beam was half pointing to the road, and half pointing up to the tree tops.
I modified the bulbs by cutting the required notches and installed them correctly, and now I have a great light beam! Is very bright but it does not upset the oncoming drivers, I drive with the fog lights on at all times, and they help a lot to light the road immediately ahead.
So I have changed my rating to 5 starts.
Anyone installing these bulbs, make sure that the led elements are side to side and you will get a great light.
My original review below.
I purchased this LED bulbs in H3 size to install in the aux fog lights of my Range Rover Classic. I already have a great set of HID Xenon in it, so I needed a set of LED bulbs to match the look, and get better lighting.
The first objective was successful. These LED bulbs have a nice, white color; perhaps a bit less than 6,000 K, so they match pretty well the Xenon HID color. They look pretty well made, good quality for the price.
I selected this type because of the fanless design; there was no way to install anything that had a bulky back in the original fog lights. The metal strip heat sink was the perfect solution. However, something important for anyone looking to use this in standard H3 enclosures: these LED bulbs are still much bigger at the back than standard H3 halogen bulbs. If you have limited back space, they will not fit. I had to cut a hole in the plastic backside of my fog lights to let the bulk of the LED bulbs (and the strip heat sinks) out.
The second objective - better lighting - was not as good as expected. They are brighter than standard halogens, but not much so. I have in my other car some H4 bulbs (from a different maker) that were impressively better than the standard halogens; these H3 in contrast give almost the same light output than the halogen bulbs. The focus of the beam however is excellent, as good as a standard filament bulb, so they light the road as good and slightly better than the halogen bulbs. This is something to praise, because the main defect of LED bulbs is the lack of focus and the fussy and scattered light beam, a defect that these bulbs do not have.
So, in summary, these are pretty good LED bulbs to replace the halogen ones; they will give a nice white light, and have an excellent design for tight installations. The light output is as good or better, so there is nothing to lose and something to gain.
