Fred Van Lente is the New York Times-bestselling author of comics as varied as Archer & Armstrong (Harvey Award nominee, Best Series), Taskmaster, MODOK's 11, Amazing Spider-Man, Conan the Avenger, Weird Detective, and Cowboys & Aliens (upon which the 2011 movie was based), as well as the novels Ten Dead Comedians and The Con Artist.

Van Lente also specializes in entertaining readers with offbeat histories with the help of his incredibly talented artists. He has written the multiple-award winning Action Philosophers! (American Library Association Best Graphic Novel for Teens), The Comic Book History of Comics, Action Presidents! (all drawn by Ryan Dunlavey), and The Comic Book Story of Basketball with Joe Cooper (Ten Speed September 2020).

Halo: Oversized Collection is basically the graphic novels "Halo: Uprising", "Halo: Helljumper", and "Halo: Bloodline", all comprised into one book. The price is great ($30 currently through Amazon), considering that those novels separate are around the $15-20 each. So not only is this cheaper than if you tried to purchase them individually, but it is also hardback and has about an extra 30-40 or so pages at the end with added artwork and interviews with the authors.

I am not that big of a fan of comics, but I am a Halo fanatic. So after loving the graphic novel "Halo: Fall of Reach" from last year, I couldn't wait for this to get released. I was interested in checking out Bloodline, Helljumper, and Uprising after reading and loving Fall of Reach; and would have just purchased them separately, but when I found out about this all-in-one book, I just decided to wait and get this when it released.

Each of the three novels are completely different stories that have to do with different parts of the Human-Covenant War.

"Uprising" is a story that bridges the gap between the ending of Halo 2 and the beginning of Halo 3. It details the Master Chief's endeavors while he is stowing away on the Forerunner Dreadnought heading its way towards Earth. Meanwhile, the Covenant start to invade Earth, setting up the battles that we eventually see in the first half of Halo 3.

"Helljumper" details a group of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, also known as helljumpers, as they investigate a distress signal on a colony world known as Ariel.

And then "Bloodline" details the story of Spartan Team Black, a top-secret unit of ONI, engaging in sabotage and assassination missions deep inside Covenant space.

Each story contains superb art style and was a pleasure to read and look at. Even if you are not that big of a fan of comic books, the story and Halo lore will keep you interested, if you are a fan of Halo in general.

Definitely an amazing book for a great price. If you are a Halo fan, you should love this collection of stories.

Love everything about it, I am new to graphic novels so I thought I'd start with fall of reach covenant,I read that then picked up invasion, and then over sized collection.all of the ones I bought were used and in perfect shape. And this next part is for the person who gave it 2 stars both the game and the novel isn't for your 10 year old to read or play, the game is pretty graphic with partial nudity,and the novel has a lot of laungauge but says 17 or older on the back so you might want to look up the product before you buy it. But I love this product and would recommend it for any new or long time halo fan like my self.

Halo is one of my all time passions, so as this being the case I will try to be as unbiased as possible. To me, everything ties into the story of halo. The stories, the heroes, the beautiful plants, all tie in. If I were someone who was unfamiliar with halo this would still be a great purchase. This book is HUGE! Keep in mind their is also great artwork on every page, making it an interesting piece either way. There are a couple stories in here that are extensions to the games, and stories that are entirely new. It's ALL worth it. For a comic book, this is great!

I purchased the Oversized Collection for my oldest son who detests reading. One day at home I caught him reading one of the smaller collections, and he asked about finding the other collections. Anytime he shows any interest in reading just about anything, my wife and I have conditioned ourselves to act quickly before the mood passes. So. Here we are with the Oversized Collection. To my surprise, it is a very nicely done collection. While the writing, especially the dialogue, seems a bit sketchy, it is great fun to compare and contrast the art work of the different illustrators. To be sure, these are not your father's comics. This collection doesn't even resemble the comics, er... graphic novels, of my youth. All the same, my son and I both enjoyed the collection, and I was ecstatic that he found some interest to keep him out of the black hole of online gaming, if even for a little while.

A word of warning for the younger readers though, there is some language that might not be appropriate for every HALO fan. Sadly, it is still much tamer than they are likely to hear with the online, interactive version...
