I have been a big Halo fan from the beginning. I have always enjoyed the soundtracks, especially from Halo 2. But, I think this one may be my favorite and it sounds wonderful on vinyl. When it dropped below $18 on Amazon, I ordered it. The price fluctuates a lot for this album.

The reason I love this on vinyl is the idea that you need to listen to it in its entirety in the order it was composed. It is a beautiful and powerful album when listened to like the conductor intended. I love it.

Halo 4 tried to introduce some new themes and succeeded on some fronts, but most fans agreed that it was too much of a departure from the original Halo score. Halo 5 finds a great balance between the two and even adds new classic themes. While Locke and his team may not be the most charismatic characters in the Halo universe, Fireteam Osiris themes have become a part of Halo in my view. Excellent work that proves Halo still has one of the best soundtracks in gaming.

Halo music is back - it is fresh and unique to Halo 5, but there's no mistaking that this is a Halo game, it hearkens back to the best of Halo and Halo 2. But it still is uniquely halo 5, especially with the slightly different types of mood for either Blue Team or Osiris Team. And as good as the older Halo music is, it's really nice to hear this played with a full orchestra.

I have all the Halo soundtracks. This one ranks somewhere in the middle - not as good as the Halo 3 soundtrack (the gold standard as far as I'm concerned) but easily better than the one for Halo 4.

The composer for this version is Kazuma Jinnouchi, and he was the composer for the cuts I liked the best in Halo 4.

There really isn't a bad cut in the whole set. Some are more energetic than others, of course, because the gameplay needs that. I made a playlist with the higher energy cuts, and I play them more often.

The composer used the two Spartan teams to work in both old and new themes. Blue Team (led by Master Chief) gets some of the traditional themes, and even new music for them has a more traditional feel. Fireteam Osiris then gets a different, newer sound.

I particularly like Walk Softly (sometimes used when you're driving a Mantis), Cavalier, and Sentry Battle.

While Mr. Jinnouchi does not try to emulate O'Donnell & Salvatori, other that occasionally revisiting key HALO themes for the sake of continuity, his compositions work well with the action and integrate seamlessly into the game experience.
