Great game, but slightly annoyed.

Great game, but slightly annoyed.
Ensemble Studios was in my top three choices for best developers of Real Time Strategy games. I had the privilege of attending the launch party of Age of Mythologies years ago and talked with the developers and even the CEO, Bruce Shelly. When I found out they were making the first Halo Wars I was ecstatic and loved the game, they finally found a way to create an RTS on a console using a controller that actually worked quite well. I was very saddened to hear this was their last game and the studio was being shut down. I always wondered if a second game in the series would have looked like. When Halo Wars 2 was announced I was very excited but cautious to see how it would turn out. To my surprise, the developers really built upon and improved the formula and controls from the previous game. The campaign is a great continuation from the first game and the consequences of what happens when you are in cryosleep for too long. The skirmish, blitz, and multiplayer are really a blast to play and I still love playing them after beating the game. I never had any issues from lag playing online. The graphics for the game are a big step up from the previous game and it shows with all the particle effects going on and how clean everything looks. I love the music in the game as it continues on the Halo feel.My biggest annoyance with the game is how it says, “Ultimate Edition”. This is a big fat marketing ploy that I HATE! All other Ultimate Editions come with all the extra DLC (that was released up to that point), so I assumed this various would have as well. Even though I did get a free digital copy of Halo Wars to put on the Xbox One with enhanced graphics but, I was quite miffed when I tried to download the DLC and told me to purchase. This is really annoying to me as I triple checked to make sure I didn’t miss any codes, but nope.Overall, I am very happy with this game, 343 really took Ensemble’s template and stepped it up and amped it in every possible direction. I was very worried before I played the game, especially since I played the first to refresh myself on everything, but there was nothing to worry about. The future looks really bright for this series and I can’t wait until the enviable announcement for Halo Wars 3 and see what awaits everyone.

Simply an amazing game. Halo Wars 2 improves significantly on every aspect when compared with the original Halo Wars. The campaign, skirmish, blitz, and multiplayer are all blasts to play. Also, if you were upset with how 343 handled Halo 5's story (as a was) you'll be pleased to know that Halo Wars 2's story is much more cohesive and well-written. This really is the perfect step in the right direction for 343, and I'm excited and less cautious for the future of Halo. Some of the reviews here might just be trolls, but I have heard from a minority of the fanbase that the game lags and even disconnects sometimes. However, it's only happened to me once in 12+ hours of playing, and even then a future patch will probably fix this, so it's nothing significant to worry about.

This is a fantastic game. The most common concern with a console based RTS, is the ability to control units quickly and precisely so that the game allows advantages/disadvantages to be exploited. Halo Wars 2 does this masterfully and gives you the tools to precisely navigate your units through the terrain.

Like its predecessor, Halo Wars 2 does a fantastic job balancing units (air, vehicle, and ground). While also giving a variety of strategic units for each class giving variety to the game (beyond simply pooling units). Further, Halo Wars 2 adds to the original game's unit pool, leading to a variety of different ways to handle particular adversaries.

The best part of Halo Wars 2 is its multiplayer, which should lead to significant replay-ability. However, I will note that the campaign was surprisingly entertaining and introduced enough variety to be enjoyable. Everything considered, this is definitely a game worth your time.

I am more a Halo fan than of the RTS genre. I picked this up mainly for its connection with the Halo universe. So far I have been enjoying the campaign and the level design. Zooming in and watching all the characters duke it out with all the vehicles and weapons that make Halo is really awesome. Controls can be frustrating at times, selecting units, but it does not dampen the fun. Controlling Spartans and the UNSC Army is a ship load of fun. I am looking forward to what the Season Pass will offer. If you are a fan of Halo this is needed in your library.

The game is fantastic and fun and gives lots of great nights for the crew when you want to focus on something that gets really intense as you play. The music, the graphics, the story, the amount of work you can put in to strategize war tactics. You're in control here. And every decision you make matters. You've got an extremely smart AI working simultaneously as you work. Legendary might seem a bit too much but over all a game definitely worth checking out for those into Real Time Strategy! Makes hours seem like minutes in this interactive world. Some glitchiness regarding multiplayer joining, but hopefully they're in the works for sending out a fix.

I've enjoyed the Halo Series of games in the past and I had no reason to think I wouldn't enjoy a game like Halo Wars 2. If you like some resource managing and commanding an army then you should enjoy this. The extra goodies included in the deluxe edition which amount to new leaders bring unique changes to the two factions you can play as. If you have a friend or two you can also play online with other players or against A.I. There's some variety in game modes but overall for what you get it's a good addition to any Halo Fan's library and a possible add if you like the Halo universe but not all the First Person shooting the other installments in the series are well-known for. it's an 8 out of 10 for me :)
