I usually take notes as I read but I was so invested (see what I did there?) in Hal and Fee, I didn’t want to put the book down, lol. While there were some twists to the plot, there were also some turns I found a little predictable, but I didn’t mind because it was the relationships and emotions that kept me engaged in the story. Hal and Fee have both been hurt by people who should have loved and cherished them, and I loved how they each find something in the other that they’ve been missing.
I don’t remember much about Halton from the earlier books so I was surprised at how quickly he pulled me in here. It made me laugh when everyone but Hal could see the writing on the wall in spite of all his protests that he was incapable of love. And the emotional payback when Hal finally gets his head on straight? It’s not only exactly what I want and expect from this author, it’s what I wish every author I read was capable of delivering.
Besides the characters from the earlier books, there were several additional secondary characters that added to the story. In particular, I loved Rene, who was not only Hal’s assistant, but also provided a father figure. Flamboyant and engaging, he wasn’t afraid to confront Hal when needed, and if the author wants to write a novella giving him a second chance at love (he’s a widower), I, for one, would be all over that story.
Great characters, all the feels, plus steam, humor, and a little suspense to keep things interesting. 5+ stars
Hal is a top-notch divorce lawyer, who loves to represent the under dog whether that is a woman with a cheating or abusive husband, or a father who is fighting for his rights against a manipulative ex-wife. Yet he avoids emotional attachments because events in his on family drama. Until Fee enters the picture, Hal never allows women to get too close. Fee changed everything, and he could not deny the passion and the protective instincts that she introduced into his life.
Fee is facing life changing events, but has not given up the idea that true love exists. What she brings to Hal's life makes him chance all the views he has harbored regarding love, and makes him believe that he is worthy of it!
Although Halton can be read as a stand alone story without reading the other books of this series, but I recommend reading all the books so that you can understand the dynamic between the BAM men when the make their appearance in Halton! This book was a bit of a surprise to me because Halton made only a brief appearance in Van. However, it seems that he had something to say, and dayum! Melanie knew how to tell his story! Here’s to hoping more surprises are in the future and we get more from this series!
This author has an uncanny ability to sneak inside my heart, from the characters she makes me fall in love with to the wide array of emotions she evokes, and everything in between. Although I wanted to shake Hal a time or ten (but his assistant, Rene, and the BAM guys did that for me), I couldn’t help but admire the quality of his character and they way he loves those close to him without ever realizing it. Seems everyone but Hal can see into the depths of his heart. I adored Fiona, a character who changed and grew to a very different person by the end of the book, and the way she related to and interacted with Hal was pure perfection and exactly what he needed.
I loved every moment of this story and was held in its grip as I flew through the pages in one sitting. It’s heartfelt and a bit tragic, but also humorous and sweet, and it’s the perfect addition to this series. Don’t miss this emotional, captivating, fantastic read!
