This pot replaced a Breville (SK500XL) I had for 12 years. I only boil the minimum 0.5L of water for coffee in the morning. Usually in a rush, my two main requirements are a popup lid and reasonably fast boiling. The popup lid is a must because I hold the pot in one hand and pour the water from my mug with the other. After boiling you can easily pop the lid with one hand allowing steam to escape and dry. I find it too cumbersome using a pot with a lid that is not attached. Maybe if I had three arms and not in a hurry I could make it work.
I never timed the Breville (1500W) but ran tests with this one:
0.5L room temperature (71F) full boil in 1’50”
1.0L room temperature (70F) full boil in 3’40”
1.7L room temperature (72F) full boil in 6’25”
Fast enough.
The base is solid with both stainless and plastic material. Much better than pots with an all plastic base (I have a backup one that is plastic). The other nice thing is it holds the boil about 5 seconds after removing it from the base. Some pots stop boiling when lifted from the base.
The pot gets hot on the outside but not enough to immediately burn a hand. Your flinch should prevent a burn. I liken it to cooking. I’m not going to touch a hot pan except by the handle :) The bottom is sufficiently insulated to set it on a counter filled with hot water.
It is stainless on the inside but there are plastic parts for the fill window and spout filter. I ditched the filter because it is one more thing to clean for a lazy person like me. I thought maybe the filter would smooth the pouring but found no difference with or without. One worry is the plastic fill windows inserted into the sides. Not sure how long they will last but only time will tell.
Could not detect any odors from the manufacturing process.
Two negatives. The mouth is smaller than the Breville requiring more accuracy when filling. This seems nitpicky but remember, I’m in a hurry in the morning and have not had any coffee. The second came from my wife. She does not like the red showing between the pot and base (and she says I’m picky).
I’m giving it five stars based upon comparison to others, price, and reading kettle reviews for an hour.
