Great product- But a design flaw

I have to say a sandwich maker is like a MUST HAVE in every household. Take your sandwich game up a notch! I do however have a couple negative critiques about this product regarding design flaws. There are ridges around the place where your sandwich goes. So in between the space for your sandwhich and the rest of the hardware, there is a deep ditch. This is especially painful when you're making sandwhich with cheese in it, because it inevitably ends up stuck in the ridge which is both unsanitary and difficult to clean (almost impossible). I have had to keep my sandwhich maker in a top cupboard in hopes that the roaches don't find it. Another design flaw is how deeply the ridges within the sandwhich maker press into the bread. When I was a child I loved the sandwhich maker my parents bought and found it a great way to make myself a quick snack after school. I cannot for the life of me remember what brand it was, but unlike this product, the sandwhich is not cut cleanly after cooking. This means I need the help of a knife to separate both sides of my sandwhich. This is just an extra step for me I wish I could avoid, but for children this is a safety hazard. Children should not need to use a knife to make a grilled cheese. I would suggest looking elsewhere if your main objective is to provide ease for your children.

I usually like Hamilton products but this one had probably a design issue. It is very easy to use but we cannot say the same about cleaning it. There is a space between the handle and the plates that will keep the cheese and pieces of bread, you have to use something very narrow to get them out. Would probably get some other machine if I knew about it earlier.

The plastic posts that hold the upper plate snapped on the first grilled cheese sandwich. It nearly burned my daughter. I had read the reviews. But decided to try it anyhow since it was an Amazon pick. Well It wasn't worth it. I was going to return it but out of frustration of it nearly burning my child. For 17 dollars. I put it in the trash. This is quite a safety issue. Maybe use a metal post not a platic one next to hot plates that hold the device together. Maybe the next one I get wont be as scary as this one. Definitely wont be this brand.

When used for the first time, I had no idea on how the sandwich was "put together". So I decided to make a grilled cheese sandwich. I should have looked at other photos or You Tube. I'm used to seeing a typical sandwich cut in half and not on a diagonal. So i placed the one side of bread on the right side and the bottom side on the left. Left side I placed cheese. What a Mess! Cheese oozed all over and outside of it. I partially blame myself, but the instructions don't mention anything about orienting the sandwich. So I shipped it back and received another. Since then I thought the grilled sandwiches are very good and grilled just right. Just cumbersome to clean as well.
UPDATE: I tried the Replacement and it was just as BAD. I thought it made ok grilled cheese sandwhiches, but it made more of a mess than the first. Cheese seem to go everywhere and I even tried very little quantity of cheese. The size of the sandwhiches are Too Small, so an average sandwhich will straddle both sides of the grill and when you close it, it squeezes and oozes everywhere. I sent the 2nd one back for a Full Refund. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Just got it recently and so far it seems great to make. My family and I use Artisano bread so it isn’t too big. Though, when reading the instructions on how to use it, it doesn’t mention that one needs to cut the bread in half to make it easier to make it look closely like it should as advertised. If you don’t and just put the whole sandwich in, it doesn’t come apart and contents may spill upon trying to separate it by the middle. Currently experimenting further to see what else it may be missing or doesn’t mention as well as other recipes. So far been making grilled cheese or peanut butter sandwiches and results are good!

Very easy to use but serious design flaw. There are gaps in between the plates and food gets everywhere. You have to tilt it on the side to draw butter/oil out of the gaps. In short a nightmare to clean!

Does not cook evenly. I think this is because of uneven heat distribution. The sandwich is not crisp but soggy! Would never recommend this to anyone.
