I really like this. it was $23 when I bought it- less expensive than most toasters.

First use was for reheating leftover pizza. It did an excellent job at reheating the pizza without making it soggy like the microwave does.

I put a piece of foil on bottom plate-so I wouldn't have to clean the grill- the top plate can be locked in any position- so it doesn't touch top of pizza. The bottom of pizza became crispy & the pizza heat all the way thru in just a few minutes. There was enough room for 2 thick, square pieces plus a couple of breadsticks.

The instructions say this is not to be used to cook things like steak & burgers.

The top plate can be locked in any position between fully opened & closed.
The cord can be wound around pegs under bottom plate.
There's a clip to lock machine in closed position.
It can be stored on side only taking about 5 inches of counter space.
Instruction book has a few recipes using tortillas, pizza crust, refrigerator crescent rolls.
You can go to Hamilton beach website to register appliance & find more recipes.

It comes with a 1 year warranty- but we have to pay for shipping to & from repair center- & if you can buy a new 1 for $25-ish__ it might be cheaper to buy a new one.

It's very sturdy/solid- metal & hard plastic. It looks -& feels like it will last

i added a video- if it's of any help in your decision making- plz click the button saying so- thanks

I had been looking around at retail stores for panini presses and there were a few problems. 1) Stores carried very few models if they sold them at all. 2) They were expensive. 3) The lid didn't float so it could only handle thin sandwiches. And so, I turned to Amazon and I am glad I did. This Hamilton Beach panini press is less expensive and better quality than any that I've found in stores.

It heats up reasonably fast, cooks sandwiches well, and the floating hinge can handle even the thickest of sandwiches. Yes, it would be nice if it had an on/off switch instead of requiring it to be plugged and unplugged, but it's not the sort of thing I'd leave on my counter all the time anyway. I take it out when I want a sandwich, wipe it down when I am done and put it away -- easy. It's big enough to fit 2-3 sandwiches, depending on the bread you use. It's just really simple to use, and I find I've started using this to toast bread instead of my toaster oven. So, I really don't see a way to complain about this. Very happy with my purchase.

edit: A year later and I'm still loving this. I moved across the country and I packed this in my suitcase for the flight. One of the plastic handles cracked (darn it, TSA) but I just super-glued it together and it works fine! I didn't bring my toaster oven when I moved -- now I just use this to toast my bread by putting the bread down without closing the lid. I also have found it is great to crisp up the outside of burritos. When I make burritos, I put them on the panini press and gently close the lid. Gives me nice golden brown grill lines. At my new place, I just leave it on my counter top so truth be told, an on/off button would be very nice. But for the way it performs and the price I paid, I can't complain that much, to be honest.

Never had a panini press before and now we're using it constantly. I don't know why sandwiches and quesadillas taste better cooked in this thing, but they just do. Easy to use and easy to clean. Love it!

Love the Panini maker. Used it the day I received it. Very easy to clean and the handle makes it easy to carry around & store on its end instead of flat...saving space.

Perfect! Price is very reasonable for the heavenly paninis this bad boy can whip up! I made a peperoni and cheese panini on Italian bread as soon as it came in today and it came out crispy and delicious!

Bought this item for my son for Christmas. He loves it. Easy to use and clean. He makes sandwiches all the time and is actually "cooking."

I bought this for my husband because he had been wanting a panini grill. I looked at the fancier, bigger, higher priced grills, but went with this one because it has a history of good reviews. Perhaps when he proves he is responsible with this one, I will get him an upgrade :)

This one is nice because there arent a lot of settings to worry about and try to remember what settings to use for what. Just turn it on, watch for the light, and then you're ready to throw your sandwich on there. He always uses thick sourdough bread and is happy with the way his sandwiches turn out. I told him to butter the grill, not the bread, and so now his results are much better.

The non stick grill surfaces are nice and easy to clean. Even if a little cheese oozes out, it wipes right off with a paper towel. Nothing sticks to the surface at all.

It is the perfect size for two nice sandwiches (on large bread), but yet not too big and bulky to have to worry about where to store it and it is not so big that it is cumbersome to move around and clean, etc.

A lot of the other lower priced models that I looked at did not have the floating lid. This one does have the hinged floating lid so you can get thick sandwiches in there and the lid will lay flat and evenly on top.

Aside from sandwiches, it is nice for burgers and steaks too. Nice to have something like this when it is too cold to go outside and run the big propane grill. We eat NY Strip and Porterhouse steaks a lot, so this little grill is really nice to get us through the winter months and not miss out on the beefy goodness. This sears them perfectly and we are able to get them done to our liking of "medium well." Boneless split chicken breasts/tenders work out wonderfully as well.
