Easy Cleanup
Allow the unit to cool before taking off or putting on parts for cleaning or use. To disconnect electric kettle before cleaning, turn any control to OFF (O) and then remove the plug from the wall outlet. For optimum performance and a clean mesh filter every time, do not to use abrasive souring pads or cleaners since this may damage the stainless steel surface. Instead, rinse the filter periodically under running water and gently brush with a clean toothbrush.
TIPS & CARE
Before use, fill kettle with selected amount of water with mesh filter in place, and ensure that water level is between 0.5 L and MAX on the water level window and on level surface before serving. Overfilling the kettle may cause boiling water to spit out of the spout. Do not use for any other purpose than heating water, as other liquids or food will contaminate the interior. If the kettle floor starts turning colors, don't panic. This is normal and tends to happen, and does not affect the kettle's performance. Note: Care must be taken when handling the kettle to avoid spilled hot liquid, scalding or burns – use knobs or handle.

Just tested the kettle out... And maybe it's just cuz I'm an electric kettle newbie.... But this thing is amazing! Where has this been all my life? It heats up the water so fast I doubt I'll need the auto timer for the morning... Lol. Has a good sturdy handle and feel to the pot. Doesn't take up a huge footprint on my counter... It's stout looking but not too heavy when full. I like the look of it... The spout opens fully with one press of the button... Large mouth to fill with water. Design of pot is simple (which means easy to clean). The metal portion does get quite hot to the touch... So use caution.
The only thing I'm concerned with is the seriously short lifespan of this product which I was aware of due to some sad reviews. But... Since its so inexpensive, I'd figure I'd give it a try.
Would definitely consider gifting this kettle to someone! It has all the bells and whistles for you to learn what you want/don't want in an electric kettle due to so many features.
Also excited in a newbie way about making quick boiling water for hot chocolate, instant coffee, instant noodles and oatmeal!
Update after 9 days of use :
have been using kettle daily for past 9 days at least 5x per day. Loving it! As expected, we didn't find the need to use the auto timer in morning since it makes the boiling water so fast. What we did discover is that we make use of the temperature setting. One tea drinker drinks tea without milk and doesn't need it scalding hot/ the other uses milk. So it's nice to be able to have a hotter setting for the milk user.
It's louder than I expected... But not obnoxious and only makes the boiling noise for a short time. Also helps that during the one hour "keep warm" period you hear that noise as a reminder to have another cup or make more.
Update October 2018: still going strong! But it seems to have gotten really loud. Still not a deal breaker for the value and features!
Update Sept 2019: it won't shut off... Good thing I noticed before it boiled dry. Unfortunately I don't think we cared for it as often as we should have (using cream of tartar more often to prevent scaling). Serious scale build-up... But we just use Florida tap water (not filtered or bottled). Also... It has rust around the lip of the spout and lid which is disappointing... You'd think stainless wouldn't rust. Also, the letters wore off on the base... But I didn't take much care when cleaning the base/using a gentle hand. It also is really loud now when it gets going. Never had a need to use the automatic/timer features but they all still work. But hey... We had it for two years...
We used this kettle every day since we purchased it at least 5x a day. I'd highly recommend the kettle for sure! But I'd like to try to find a quieter/glass model next just for a change. If I don't like the glass model, I'd definitely considering repurchasing this model again. Very budget friendly and dependable!
The temperature can be set anywhere from 150 degrees F (65.6 deg C) up to 212 deg F (100 deg C) which brings the water to a rapid boil. The 5 preset temperatures are cycled through be pressing the prog. button. The preset temps are 175, 180, 190, 200, and 212 deg F (79.4, 82.2, 87.8, 93.3, and 100 deg C). I use the presets to get to the correct range, but then must fine tune. I wish these were programmable presets. I have verified that the temperature setting is quite accurate using an external thermometer (making sure to keep the thermometer tip in the middle of the water and not on the bottom).
The water heats up so quickly that I haven't had a need to program the timer. For all temps besides boil, the kettle will keep the water within 10 deg of the setting for an hour (by default), you can simply turn the kettle off and on again to restart the hour. You must make sure you turn it off if you don't plan to use it for the hour or else it will suck down power and could be dangerous (see below). When set to boil, the water will heat to a rapid boil, then slowly drop to around 190 deg F (87.8 deg C) before the kettle heats it back up to a boil. Again it will repeat this for an hour. The spout works well, no dripping after a pour and a pretty smooth pour.
One drawback to this kettle is that the metal kettle is only made of a single layer. This means that if the water inside is 200 deg the outside is also (youch!). So you must be careful when working around the kettle when it is up to temp (keep children away!). Also, this allows the heat to escape more quickly than other kettles I've used so this kettle requires more power to keep the water warm. This is not a terrible problem for me since I normally don't leave the kettle up at temp. Another small problem with the kettle is that the water level measurement markings are on a transparent plastic insert behind the handle. This makes it slightly difficult to read.
Despite these drawbacks I love the kettle's operation and find it works perfectly for me. I use if for matcha (160 deg F), green loose leaf tea (160 deg F), coffee (175 deg F), and various black teas (212 deg F). So i use several temperatures a day and this kettle makes it simple to do. Highly recommend. (note: I have only had for a week so I cannot comment, at this time, on the longevity of this product.)

I purchased this October 2013 and it has been fantastic till now. A couple of days ago I used the kettle and it was working great. I later in the day unplugged it to plug in a different appliance and that evening when I went to use it again, it doesn't work. The display lights up, it tells me the temperature of the water, when I turn it on the button lights to show it is on but nothing happens. Nada.
Naturally it is just a few months past the warranty period. Will be contacting Hamilton Beach and see if there is a fix for this that doesn't involve spending almost as much as purchasing a new kettle. Will re-edit my review to inform the results!
Two stars removed due to lack of reliability. Will increase stars again if the company will stand behind the product.

What do I love about it? It heats water super fast. Love that it's cordless. I love that it's programmable to the temperature I want rather than having to take the default. Although I don't leave it to keep heating the water after I've poured it, I do still love that it will maintain the water's temperature for an hour after boiling because if I'm in the middle of something when it's done boiling, I don't have to run and get it because it's boiling away. A perfect kettle!
What I found useless it the timer... to use it you need to keep the kettle plugged at all times- which ironically is not a good thing according to the instructions booklet! If you unplug the kettle, you loose the time, and auto timer obviously. To re-set them, there is only 1 button and you have to go minute by minute which is a non sense. Anyways who really wants to pre program the boiling of the water when it takes actually 2-3 minutes to reach the desired temperature?
I do not know how long it will last, but it was way cheaper than other models. The plus is that it is not in plastic and a possibility of manual adjustments between the pre set temperature.
-the interior is metal and so it does not affect flavour
-working variable temperature settings, very easy to use
-good size
-easy openings
-awesome for tea, has a mesh by the spout for looseleaf
-F and Celsius for us undecided canadians
cons
-the base is very cheap, and made of plastic
- you get what you pay for
-no gooseneck spout
Overall a very good kettle, however, you may want to consider one with a gooseneck spout, that is if you want to get into coffee brewing. I bought this before i got into coffee, and so if you have any doubts to your preferance. I would get a gooseneck... I now need to purchase a new kettle
