2-Way Brewing Options
Whichever way you decide to brew, the 2-Way Brewer lets you do both. For a single cup when you’re on the go, the single-serve side lets you add grinds directly into the mesh filter that fits the brew basket or insert a soft pod with the pod holder. For the stronger caffeine fixes or on days you want to enjoy cup-after-cup without brewing each time, the carafe-side makes a full 12-cup pot for your drinking disposal. And if you forget to turn it off, no worries. The Two-Way Brewer’s nonstick, keep-hot plate retains the piping-hot coffee after brewing and shuts off automatically after two hours.
Brew in Advance and Wake Up to Hot Coffee
Want to sleep in for five more minutes? Go ahead, get some more beauty sleep and take advantage of the built-in, programmable clock and timer. Its hour and minute features let you program your ideal coffee-drinking time up to 24 hours in advance.
Single-Serve Brew Function
With the mesh filter that’s included, adding your flavored, decaf or premium roast brand coffee grinds couldn’t be easier. Just remember that more isn’t always necessarily better in this case; use slightly less coffee grinds to avoid overflow and weaker-tasting coffee. For coffee lovers who live for the pleasure of roasting their own beans every day, this Two-Way Brewer offers an added bonus for the extra effort. Equipped with a Brew Strength Selector, you can you choose Regular and give your tastebuds the simplicity of standard medium-grind coffee, or you can go Bold and select a decaf, finer grind or a premium roast brand for richer flavor.

The pot portion was just fine, as well, however, we had to clean this with vinegar more frequently than any pot I've ever had simply to get it to make a full pot within the two hours that the warmer stayed on. In fact, currently, we program it to start brewing at 4:30am so that when I get up at 5:30 am, I can have a cup of coffee. (It's at between 4-6 cups at that point.) NOBODY has time for that. It is also leaving two cups in the holding tank which won't come out.
It's terrible and our new Bunn is coming tomorrow. Goodbye Hamilton Beach pot, we will not miss you.
What I like are the two options to brew up to 12 cups of coffee AND brew single serve. I had an option to buy a maker that's nearly the exact copy as this one but uses K cups with no option of using loose coffee and decided I'd rather get this one so I can use my premium coffee as an option. Should I want K cups, I'll cut open the cup and pour the coffee into the reusable coffee strainer. This maker also gives you an option to use a tumbler OR coffee cup. Simply fill your cup with water and pour into it. Simple. Same for the carafe. I like that there's an LED light for the clock but it doesn't stay on. It turns off when the coffee is done. The coffee brews FAST. I'm used to makers taking some time to brew, even with new makers. This one brews so fast that I hardly had time to tend to the kids before it was done. The pot stays hot too. Sometimes you want a quick cup before it's done. Too bad though. You have to wait. I’m not sure someone rushing to work would mind though if they’ve scheduled their single cup to be done right before leaving.
The colors are nice on this machine too. Since stainless steel + black is still popular, it should match well. This is also not a huge machine. It's actually smaller than my single Mr. Coffee machine and shorter as well. Looks like a mini espresso machine. What I wish I could do though is not have to pull the machine out from under a cabinet to pour in the water. If there was a drawer instead, it would make it easy for many of this. This is just a personal wish though.
Pros: LED Light, single and carafe coffee brewing, reusable coffee strainer for the single cup, fast brewing, heating pad for carafe, stainless steel + black, not too big, pocket to hide extra wire within itself, programmable brewing for auto brew, ability to use tumbler or coffee cup with stand, given instructions on how to clean it and suggests vinegar once a week for hard water (Use Lemon Shine instead if your machine stops working by making a solution of water and the crystals and brew)
Cons: No option to keep LED clock light on, you have to wait until all the coffee has been brewed into the carafe before pouring, My buttons were a little lopsided (probably from packaging),
I would not recommend that anyone buy this model coffee maker.
UPDATE 7/30/2018: I did contact Hamilton Beach and based on previous reviewers I was very concerned they would make me pay money to return the broken coffee maker. I was pleasantly surprised that they opted to allow me to remove the cord as they described to make it safe for disposal and I just received the replacement maker today. I'm still a little concerned it might not last like I hope, but hoping all the negative reviews has prompted them to improve. I'll update this review if it ends up lasting or if it dies again like the first one. But for now I've upgraded from 1 to 3 stars b/c they did come through sending me a replacement without costing me extra money or effort.

When our Cuisinart maker with the built-in grinder stared leaking all over the counter at home, I research all available options for a new one. We took a chance on this Hamilton Beach, with mostly(not all) good ratings noting its low price. This machine, in its first days of use, rivals the Drip-O-Lator in flavour and even in simplicity of use. I can't fathom the truthfulness of the critical reviews. The single-serve side is not messy, and the flavour is first rate. We bought the crinkly made-in-Canada basket for the multi-cup side, and the results are just the same on both sides, using Nabob Bold Full City Dark. This water is from a well, hydrogen peroxide treated and softened, but judging by the results, that seems perfectly fine. The Cuisinart never made compelling coffee, even in fresh-grind mode. The pre-heated urn never kept things warm and it was messy to pour in its necessarily upside-down position.
The Hamilton Beach is very economical, seeming to deliver the same volume of brewed of coffee as the water that is poured in. Access to the water tank is convenient, and the graduated lines are very visible. The single-serve side takes a tiny bit of coffee grounds in the bottom of the stainless mesh basket, and then the amount of coffee you want to drink is poured into the upper chamber from the cup you'll be drinking it from. Finally, the machine has a name that's easy to pronounce and spell---this Chinese make (I guess) does not have a pretentious European name, like the other Chinese machines.
The Cuisinart , even in fresh-grind mode, never made compelling coffee.

This seemed in line with what I was after and the reviews were very positive -- not to mention, the price was right -- so I went for it. I've been using it every day for 2 weeks now and I've been very happy with it.
It does NOT accept typical single-serve pods as a Keurig or similar brewer would, only "pads" which are essentially just individually-packaged grounds wrapped in a filter. This is actually fine, though, since these can be found here and there for about 25 cents each, which is a whole lot cheaper than the Keurig-compatible pods -- although selection is necessarily narrower, so if you're choosy about your coffee that might be a drawback. (Side note: teas are quite easy to find in this form factor and brew very nicely.) But that's where the built-in single-cup mesh filter and carafe side come in. You can use the grounds of your choice to make either single cups or any-size (up to 12 cup) pots -- and you can actually make a *strong* single cup, which is a neat trick that I like very much.
It has a functional auto-brew setting and seems easy enough to clean.
Very happy with my purchase. Highly recommended.
I bought this coffee maker only because of its combined Single Serve Coffee Brewer. It failed me.
The coffee brewed through this Single Serve Coffee Brewer is actually just a yellow/ brown water with disgusting taste. It literally passes hot water over the coffee with absolutely no soaking / retention time for actual brewing.
I brew the same coffee grounds in the onboard pot maker and you get a relatively good coffee.
I am not sure what the warranty policy is on this equipment but I would like to have it returned.
Makes great coffee but is a bit difficult to clean. Also takes a very long time to make the pot of coffee compared to my previous coffee makers. Looks nice enough and I enjoy having the single cup option without wasteful k cups. I love that it doesn’t beep, is pre-programmable. Does not come with a reusable large filter, so had to buy the basket separate.
