Safety FirstThe food pusher makes it easy to push cheese, fruits and vegetables through the large chute and into the processor blade. |
Chopping and MixingThe S blade is ideal for chopping nuts or mincing and pureeing vegetables and fruits. |
Slicing and ShreddingA reversible slice/shred disc is great for slicing cucumbers, apples, mushrooms, carrots, potatoes, cabbage and firm cheeses. Use the shred side for shredding vegetables and cheese. |
Tips for working with cheese
Grated cheeses are popular in so many recipes, but sometimes shredding them can be cumbersome. For best results, we recommend selecting firm cheeses such as cheddar, Monterey jack or Swiss. Place cheese in freezer for 30 minutes before processing.

**** My conclusion. I still believe that that a higher price point won't get you a better machine. I think the motor on this one is garbage. I didn't use it everyday, or heck- every week. I hate disposable appliances. It's ridiculous and shameful.
I don't know where to go next. The upside is that I have a Kitchen Aid mixer now and may turn to one of their attachments for shredding and such. But I need containment for pulverizing dried mushrooms. I have no idea what I will purchase next. It really did start out nice and powerful. But these are not long term appliances.
***************
So far so good- washed it up and got to busy making some zucchini bread. It made easy work of it.
I did a lot of research on processors. The one thing I found is that this is one appliance where you really can get a decent machine for less than the "high end" brands that really aren't any better.
As far as noise- After reading a lot of reviews I've come to the conclusion- that noise is just that- and some people's version of a rocket engine is the same as someone else's low noise window fan. I found this particular processor to me somewhere on the lower end of the noise spectrum. It is powerful, but I didn't feel it sounded like it was going to shoot off into space.
As far as jamming- if it's anything like the limitations of a juicer. Unless the manual says you can shove large bricks of cheese or a full sized apple in- it's gonna jam. This model says to cut down to one inch chunks. Sounds feasible to me. I had no issue. Yes- there were still flat wads that got stuck on top of the blade. I expected some of that. It's not going to shred every square cm of food.
The suction cups were a pleasant surprise and the sound makes me giggle when I move it to the area I am plugging it in.
Clean up- very simple- rinse clean and dry. It says it's top rack dishwasher safe- but I find it more logical to just wash it by hand than wait to fill up my dishwasher and risk anything drying on it.
Bowl leakage- I had no issue with what I used. I am pretty sure I was nowhere near exceeding the volume. Seriously makes me wonder what the heck people are doing! I think you can pretty much avoid this by being aware of how full your bowl is. It's not rocket science.
Overall quality of plastic and machine- I was pleasantly surprised at the heft of the plastic and feel of machine. It locks and unlocks quite easily as opposed to some where you pretty much have to wear a foil hat, stand on one foot and stick your tongue out at 63° to the left to get it lock and engage the safety feature. It does not have a pour spout, but I didn't find that an inconvenience, as I am generally dumping into a larger bowl. If you have that much issue with pouring and making a mess- I suggest you use a blender or throw down a tarp.
I do not plan on using this for kneading or mixing bread, it is also not meant for crushing ice. It's not meant for that. I think at the very least- you might be able to make pie crust. I found a trend on these appliances. People constantly trying to overextend the practical use of a food processor and then complain when it craps out. Aside from a few lemons (I have no doubt they exist) I think it's safe to say that in this price range, it has pretty simple features. No bells and whistles here. Just a basic decent quality motor food processor.
I'm looking forward to using it regularly.
*******************************************
Edited to add- After 4 years or so of spastic and irregular use of making biscuit dough, pie dough, chopping onions, shredding cheese, pulverizing dried mushrooms (not at the same time), this poor machine is in a death spiral. The fun suction cups that allowed me to switch it to full power and not worry about it walking off the counter are all broken. The plastic bowl is scratched and disfigured (thanks to the dried mushrooms- did you know they get really hot if they get stuck on the end of the blade and will warp the plastic?) The blade is now dull as a toddler's spoon. I guess that's what you get. I'm torn. Based on previous and current research, I seriously don't think the higher end brand and models will fair any better. So do I get another one or upgrade to a Ninja food processor/ blender combo in what I call a "Costco Du Jour" deal? Or do I order the current model of this one? We had a good run. It's a good appliance until it's not. It's one thing if Hamilton Beach offered replacement blades or bowls. But the suction cups on the bottom broke off and can't be fixed. The motor still works pretty well. So I'm stuck with a gimpy food processor. I don't want to contribute to the landfill. I'm tired of disposable appliances.
I use my food processor heavily, at least once a week and chop vegetables, cooked meats, etc and make large batches. I tend to push them beyond what they are really designed to do. This heavy use means that I buy a new one about once a year so I'd say that I really put these to the test.
Overall, I like this processor so much better than what I was using, with only one complaint. I'll list the pros and cons:
PROS:
-Very powerful. I noticed a difference right off the bat with this one. It makes short work of even a large batch and can handle doughy, thick textures very well. Unlike my old processors, this one never overheats, it doesn't break a sweat with anything I throw at it.
-Sturdy design of the blade and shaft. This processer uses stronger, thicker plastic for the blade and turning shaft. With my old processors, they would always develop cracks in the turn shaft but this one is inherently stronger by design and the plastic seems much more dense and less brittle. I think this one will go a lot longer than the year I've been getting out of the others.
-Sharp -and I mean sharp-blade. Do handle it with care, pay attention to where your fingers are whenever you have this in your hand for cleaning or any other reason. It will slice right through skin if you touch it. That is one of the things that's good about it though because it does puree foods very well. With my old processors, I always worried that the thin, wimpy blade would break off while it was running - scary. No worries with this one, it is stout and sharp!
-Suction cups on bottom. They are very high quality, it clings to the counter really well. Some reviewers complained about it but I think it's wonderful. Nice that I don't have to stand there bracing it the whole time it's running to keep it from going for a walk. Given how powerful this is, I think it would be all over the counter without the suction cups. Great feature.
-Compact for storage. Some processors have a giant food chute sticking out of the front and that makes storage a constant pain. This has a very compact profile for a large capacity processor and the longer I have this, the more I appreciate this about it.
-Attractive, like the black color. Because I use this so much, I have it out in the kitchen. The black color makes it less obvious. My old processor was just plain ugly. This one looks about like a coffee pot and takes up just a little more space.
-Noise? I find it very reasonable for what it is. Some reviewers have complained that it's noisy, but I find that ALL good food processors make noise. Expecting a heavy-duty machine to be quiet is kind of like looking for a quiet chainsaw - it just goes with the territory. For a heavy duty processor, the noise is not bad at all. It's not a little blender, folks.
The one CON:
- I have one complaint about it. The claim that it's a 10 cup capacity is a bit of a fib. The bowl holds that much, yes, but the center of the spindle is much lower than the sides and it does not seal at the top. So if you fill the bowl all the way, the food will leak out of the center, down the shaft and make a big old mess. The more liquid you have, the bigger the mess will be. It has a fill line on the bowl, but don't believe it - you can fill to the top of the shaft in the middle and that's it. So for practical purposes, this is more of a 9 cup processor. I was disappointed in that but it is still a bigger batch than anything else that's available and the powerful motor and design make it better than anything else I've used. I do notice the difference even with a nine cup batch since my old ones barely handled eight. I hope that future designs will address this since I think the motor can handle 10 just fine if they will make the center a little taller.
Overall, this is by far the best processor I've ever had. It's going to outlast the others too, I can tell already. You can't beat the price, I'm getting every penny's worth already. When this one finally wears out, I'll be wanting another of the same to replace it. I see no reason to spend more on a different brand, this beats all. If you are kind of rough on a processor and need one with more gusto, this is it.
I just used my new food processor yesterday and my husband asked from the living room what I was doing, that he smelled something like ‘electrical short’ or something. I had smelled it too but assumed it was because it was the first use and it had to burn out some oil or something.(?)
But when my husband’s voiced his concern about an electrical problem, I remembered that when I opened the box, I noticed that the cord was actually pinched under the edge of the hole where it was coming out of the motor, like the casing had been applied with the cord not aligned in the hole. I slid it out of that corner and repositioned it inside the opening where it should have been. Of course since the cord had been there since the assembly process it was kinked, and had compression marks on the cord but I didn’t think it would affect its performance and trusted that the plastic coating would have protected the wiring.
Now I am worried that it might have severed one of the small electrical wire conduits inside the insulation because of the smell it created, and I am somewhat afraid to use it now. I contacted customer service to inquire and the representative was helpful in offering a replacement.
***** I will update my review when I get the new one and test it for performance.
