If you're looking for a good deal on an electric knife, I recommend the 74250 Hamilton Beach Carve 'N Set.
First: the two blades are too far apart - I end up with a good fraction of what I'm cutting getting shredded BETWEEN to the two blades.
Second: there's no lock for the trigger so you have to hold it down for the entirety of the slice (and if sawing through a thick roast, you're holding it down for a REALLY long time).
Third: The handle is large and awkward. I don't have small hands but just to be sure, I had my large handed friend try it. He didn't consider it to be particularly comfortable either.
I'm going to see if I can find a better electric knife because, lord knows, a good one could get a lot of use in my kitchen. The "try agains" for this one are over - I'm putting it on Ebay for some other unfortunate soul to use. Clearly there are a lot of positive reviews so I'll sell it to someone who might actually like the thing!
In so many ways, this product deserved to be tossed into the trash, but fortunately I still had the receipt so was able to return it. I hated to do it, because I feel sorry for the person who buys it next.
The handle is large and bulky. I do not have small hands, and I play the piano so I am accustomed to stretching my fingers. The handle is also too smooth and my hand slipped as my fingers attempted to use the trigger. The trigger is on the bottom of the handle. This is fine because my old one was too, but it has some sort of crazy safety feature where you not only have to stretch to hold down the trigger but you also have to slide it back as well. Extremely awkward and, after slicing 3 loaves of bread, my hand was numb.
Shame on HB for designing this. I returned it and bought a Cusiniart which I have hopes for because the handle is a nice shape, a textured finish, and and easy-to-operate trigger.

For slicing bread, the HB leaves much to be desired - unless the bread you bake is mostly white flour. Read morePublished 2 days ago by goedelite
The blades are too flimsy to cut bread. They would bend and separate and not cut the bread evenly. Might be okay for more substantial meat, but definitely not for French bread,... Read morePublished 5 days ago by Dennis I.
Unit failed during first use. Internal cam followers that drive blades melted. Was slicing firm roasts - 2 of them. Had to finish 2nd one with manual carver. Read morePublished 7 days ago by D. Emmel

Motor quickly gets hot, smells hot. Sometimes starts with a terrific jerk -- hold on tight! Motor too big, hard to hold. Does have plenty of power and cuts well.Published 18 days ago by Gerald G
