I'm on my fourth Hamilton Beach personal blender. My daughter abused the first two and burned out the motors, but even with proper use, eventually the cup will spring a leak and need to be replaced. I've been happy with the product, so I bought this one that has two cups. Unfortunately, the blade isn't the same as on my prior blenders. The pictured blades match what I've had in the past, but not this product. The newer blades are thinner, shorter, and flatter and just generally flimsier. They get jammed more easily, and it's more difficult to pulverize ice than with the other blade style. I'll use it until it wears out, but I won't be buying this item again.
In each image, the old cup is on the left and the new one is on the right. The old cup is quite scratched up from use, but you can see that the lower blades are flat across, whereas on the new cup, the lower blades bend downward. On the old one, the blades are longer, and the higher blades are different angles, whereas on the new cup, the top blades are bent to the same angle, and flatter than in the old cup. The old blades have pointed tips, and the new ones have rounded tips, and although it's hard to see in the photos, the metal seems thicker in the old cup than the new one, and the beveling of the blade is wider on the older style, so blades appear sharper.
This Hamilton Beach blender is a great size for 1 smoothie, which is all I need since I am single and ready to mingle fruit and veggies together for a delicious breakfast.
--For a tiny little motor this thing lasts forever
--Durable (as long as you don't drop it from a tall counter)
--The container is hard to clean. It's very difficult to reach the bottom because it doesn't come apart. Grime ends up collecting on the bottom and sides of the container because there's just no way to reach it. I tell myself it's fine because it's just spinach and strawberry remnants. Works for me, anyway.
I would recommend this for single smoothies.
QUIET - one of my favorite things about this blender is it isn't noisy like others so it doesn't wake everyone up in the morning.
Simple to use, one button blend
Easy to store with wrap around cord
Doesn't take up much room on the counter
In terms of BPC, I'm putting hot coffee in it, and it seems like the lid can't handle the heat too long. Starts getting soft, doesn't seem to cause an issue though.
The lid leaks! - The lid is designed to be able to be a to-go cup, because of this, while blending, if there's too much in the blender it will come out the top of the lid. And I didn't even have the cup over the fill line.
This is a great little blender for bullet proof coffee, just be careful not to make a mess from the lid, and I wouldn't recommend using it as a travel cup since the coffee is hot and it seems like the cup isn't designed to handle hot liquids for too long.
To be fair, there are two possible reasons for the plastic failure. For one, I have used it to blend very hot liquids a couple of times (gravies and saiuces), and that was probably not a use they expected to occur commonly with this jar. It's also possible that the jar was dropped on a hard floor at some point as it was in a room with concrete floors for a while. Nevertheless, I would recommend top shelf dishwashing and perhaps handwashing and allowing it to air-dry when convenient to prolong the jar life.
As others have mentioned, the jar does not disassemble for cleaning, which would be a nice feature given that I've been buzzing meaty cat foods in it. However, overall it's easy enough to clean, and I have occasionally let it sit with h2o2 in the bottom before dishwashing to kill any hidden germs in the crevices.
The motor was plenty strong for my purposes, and I would never try to use this to buzz lots of ice or anything like that. If I needed power I would use my Bosch compact kitchen machine. Compared to the price of baby food blenders, it answers my current needs very well without breaking the bank or taking up a lot of space in the sink, dishwasher or on the counter.
I may use one of the jars to replace the cracked one on the old blender, and keep one fresh jar and the new blender set aside for non-meaty uses.
Amazing! amazing! AMAZING! This smoothie has become a staple for my everyday routine and I use it twice per day depending on how I feel. It’s great when you’re trying not to eat unhealthy snacks you just whip up a smoothie and enjoy! I am buying one for my mother!
