to the VitaMix 750/7500 models & the Ninja (BL2012)....
The Ninja's 1600 watts when converted into HP, makes it a bit more powerful than the Vitamix 7500 & a little LESS than this newest Hamilton Beach 1,800 watt "Professional".
The Ninja really does not compare to either the VitaMix or a Hamilton Beach Professional in quality.
Because this Hamilton Beach "Professional" has a metal drive & stainless steel blade & It is thermal-protected (*to prevent overheating) and the VitaMix also is all metal, while the Ninja BL2012 has plastic gears!
So I am removing this Newest Ninja from my comparisons as that is a no brainer to eliminate it when the Ninja's price is so close to the "Professional" blender's that has a superior motor (in every way!)!
Now comparing the watts & H.P. in the VitaMix & the Professional.
The Vitamix 750 & 7500 (750 has preset options/costs more than the 7500 that has no presets) both are over double the price of this Hamilton Beach "Professional" The Vitamix has a 1,440 watts / 2.2 hp motor.
To convert 1,440 watts into hp multiply it by a factor of 0.00134, which is actually 1.93 horsepower.
The listed 2.2 hp is 2.2 is its "peak" horsepower!
The same goes for the Professional' 2.4 hp, that is a "peak" rating..
*So when comparing "apples to apples" basically this Professional has a slightly more powerful motor but that is not the only reason why I prefer it over this VitaMix, besides it costing less, it also has the metal drive and the extra thermal protection to give it the edge over the VitaMix IMO.
Both have the touted "Triton" aka plastic containers. While great that they are durable and BPA free, I still prefer G L A S S !!
I know I will eventually break it/glass but I would rather have to buy another glass blending canister than worry about what toxins were found to be released through Triton/plastic down the road! So this is just the way they make them these days, neither have an option to buy a glass canister.... so sad.... I am taking away 1 star as 5 stars means ABSOLUTELY perfect w/ no room for improvement... I feel there is room for improvement in this area, they could at least offer it as an "add on" or aftermarket option to purchase ala cart!
Also one thing I noticed regarding the warranties, while Hamilton Beach offers 5 years the VitaMix offers you 7 years AND gives you free shipping both ways. This Hamilton Professional doesn't say they do so that usually means that YOU pay for the shipping for repairs. I did not call them and there may be some circumstances where they will send a prepaid label but it wasn't written anywhere that I saw.
But given the price difference IF you ever did have to ship it out for repairs it would still be cheaper with that extra cost than buying the VitaMix!
With both the Professional & the Vitamix 750 there are preset options along with manual use and pulsing, this Professional has a tamping tool much like the VitaMix and the shape of the mixing containers are both square-ish sided vs round.
This is so that the foods you are blending hit the sides instead of spinning around and only getting processed by the blades.
The Vitamix and Professional both are FANTASTIC at their processing capabilities but Vitamix had an issue for a couple of years with teflon specks being blended into the foods inside the blending container...
People kept complaining (VitaMix said it was simply a matter of "customer preference" & as teflon is not harmful when ingested there was "no problem!" so basically, "get used to eating teflon"!
Well they finally did something about a couple of years later so as of May 2015 the gasket that was the culprit has been switched in new machines. So all this to say IF you are still thinking of getting a Vitamix make sure yours has the newest production date you can find!
I personally lost all interest in buying one after my friend who has this model told me about this "issue.
So not feeling all "warm & fuzzy" with their attitude to a blatant defect!!
It appears to me that they probably only "fixed it" when their supply of that part ran out!
So for their similar features (*sans the teflon gasket) considering the quality, performance & the price of the VitaMix vs the Professional, I would definitely recommend you get this Professional at 1/2 the price and the more powerful motor ANNND (Hamilton Beach) never having had an issue like teflon flakes in any of their past blenders & their saying,"it was a matter of customer preference!!"
*Now I have not tried making the hardest task you can think of in one of these high end powerful mixers, the dreaded "nut butters" simply because we don't do that here (we love Skippy's natural pb & figure why mess w/perfection!) lol ;-P
So IF that is an issue I would still give this Professional a try, you can always return it if it does not meet your expectations but for whirring up our daily peanut butter and frozen banana yogurt smoothies *with real, whole nuts (almonds & peanuts) this works like a dream!
no problem and cleans easy I definitely recommend it, yes it was pricey but you get what you pay for
