With some key reenactment scenes shot at the former home of fellow New Yorker and founding father John Jay, as well as at Hamilton’s relocated home, Hamilton’s Grange, the film features interviews with TV journalists Tom Brokaw and Maria Bartiromo, as well as historian Ron Chernow, whose Hamilton biography served as the basis for the Broadway musical.
Until the hit Broadway show, Alexander Hamilton was the nation’s forgotten founding father, overshadowed by his contemporaries Jefferson, Adams, and Franklin. But this documentary shows precisely how much influence Hamilton had in shaping the new nation. He was an interpreter and promoter of the U.S. Constitution, served as Secretary of the Treasury, designed economic policies of the George Washington administration, established a national bank, established friendly trade relations with Great Britain, and strengthened the federal government. Along the way, he made a number of political enemies, one of whom was Aaron Burr, who killed Hamilton in a pistol duel.
