I do admit I did remove and set aside the cover. I'm in an office environment and this feature is not really necessary for me. If I were working in the out-of-doors then that would be a different story.
I’ve had it running for the last 5 days and so far the watch has gained about 20 seconds in 5 days, the watch was new out of the box. It is an interesting design, the strap is actually a dark brown color in the pictures the strap looks more black, but in real life it is a noticeable dark brown.
The part of the strap that is the removable cover is interesting, different, and noticeable, I like it and people have complimented me on it bc it looks different, but it is not practical, you can easily remove the cover without having to remove the strap, I removed the cover, but I keep it and have the option to put it on any time…
The size of the watch is a nice “in between” size it is not too big and not too small, it is an anti magnetic watch so effort was put into the watch by the company Hamilton when building the model to make the watch some what resistant to magnetic influence which can throw mechanical watches off in keeping time, the metal parts of the watch are not shiny, it is more of a dull finish that really looks good and goes with the theme of the watch, crystal sapphire is also a plus
I was looking for a brand new mechanical watch that was not too expensive but still was good quality, I think this is a good choice, there are not as many options for brand new mechanical watches out there anymore, most are automatics.
I don’t think Hamilton produces this watch any more it is in last years catalogue, they have a few watches that look similar to this one but they are automatic.
The strap is quite a peculiar one, because of the face cover, but that could be removed (and so I did, because I think it's not practical to open it to read time). The leather is comfortable and durable, and it matches the look of the watch perfectly.
The watch has a modern 42mm size, a nice domed sapphire crystal, and feels substantial without being too heavy or too thick. It's easy to read at a glance, and hands are lumed so they are readable in the dark all night long.
The movement is an ETA 2801-2, a solid and reliable good quality handwind Swiss movement, that proved itself quite accurate and consistent through this years. People may think handwinds are outdated, but they are more rugged than automatics, and as long as you wind the watch it won't stop, so you don't need to wear the watch all the time.
I'm very pleased with this watch and I would recommend it.
* Accurate to within 10s a day.
* Hacking (second hand freezes when you pull the crown out).
* Beautiful face, absolutely minimal and functional. Perfectly understated look.
* Just the right weight and thickness. Just the right size for a 6-7 in wrist.
* Makes a lovely sound when you hold it to your ear.
* Need to remove garbage leather around the watch - a stupid cuff and an even more stupid "lid".
* Leather strap feels cheap, even though it doesn't look that way. Strange "H" tang. Strap retainers are awkwardly placed for reasonable sized wrists. Probably needs a new strap in short order.
