That's right, the actual size of the pan is only 15 inches by eight-and-a-third. I was expecting eighteen-by-fifteen, with an eight-inch depth. Joke's on me, it seems.
When ours reached such a point recently, this was what we replaced it with. It has a lower profile than covered litter boxes, but the high sides still provide relief from litter spreading outside the box during energetic covering.
Dr. Dink The Cat was quite satisfied with this offering....even if he had an odd way of showing his appreciation:-)
Re the design: I love the concept, which is to try to reduce litter mess in the area of the cat box, but still give the cat the feel of an open box. However, the containment only seems to work well for one of my two cats: for the dainty one, it works just as one would hope, containing the mess in all directions except the front. However, the other is an extremely enthusiastic digger, and still manages, much to my surprise to kick litter in all directions, though this design does reduce the mess that I would otherwise be dealing with. Bottom line; if you have an enthusiastic digger, stick with the covered boxes if you want to limit the cat litter all around the box; if you have a more normal digger, then this might work well to minimize - tho not eliminate- the mess on 3 sides.
Re. cleanup: not sure how the plastic is treated, but so far it cleans up amazingly well and fast, with no lingering urine smell as many boxes have.
From the cats' point of view: both appear to like this design as well as a completely open box, and definitely more than a covered box, which they both appear to tolerate but dislike.
And it is lightweight. I wouldn't use regular litter that you would have to try and lift when it's full, just a guess on my part. I use clumping litter so I only have to lift it when I wash it and I make sure it's pretty empty. So far there's been no cracking or breaking. Don't try to lift it by the added sides it will unsnap.
Why I like it: For some reason the clumping litter is easier to remove from this plastic than many of the heavier boxes I've had. Even where there are ridges it seems to just slide off, no heavy duty scraping needed. On other boxes I had to use a no-stick litter box spray but not with this one.
The other reason, and it's the most important one, my cat uses it properly. I say properly because she's a sprayer. Because of her arthritis she has trouble squatting so she used to end up pretty much spraying outside lower/entrance side of the box. She just wouldn't turn around in even the bigger or hooded boxes I had. She just walked into the box, sprayed on the floor, smiled and left. For some reason she has only done that with this box a couple of times in the last 5 months. Yay!! Maybe it's the white sides? Who knows what goes on in that little brain of a devious cat. LOL
Oh, and I paid only $12.00 for it at Big Lots. So I figure if it lasts half as long as the last $25.00 box I'm doing okay.

It served its purpose very well. Big enough for my cat, but small enough to sit between bathroom counter and toilet.Published 10 months ago by Brittany Hatch
Nice litter pan, however, my cats were a little leary of the rim at first. So I removed it until they got used to it then put the rim on and they were ok with it.Published 18 months ago by J. Lyons

Great for my bunnies! The high sides keep the bedding in and seems to make the bunny more secure.Published 20 months ago by Jenntree
Cat prefers this open one over hooded one. Unfortunately, the liter flies out the low side when she uses it.Published 22 months ago by Barbra Wawa
