The weld at the base of this C frame tore apart even from gentle use. I'm only 180 lbs, and there was never more than 220 lbs on the chair, well under the 275 lb rating. Been using since Nov 7,'14. That's just a little over 6 months.
When I did open the item to attempt to assemble it, I found one (1) very dirty and wrinkled page headed “Assembly Instructions for C-Frame.” The page had drawings of each part of the item (lettered “A” through “F”) and names identifying them; and a drawing of the assembled item. There were no instructions
It also included a:
WARNING: Frame load limit 300 pounds. The frame is not intended to be a swing set. Failure to adhere could result in injury. (And a warning to look for rust).
In trying to assemble the item, I found that:
1. One of the 2 screws holding the upright support to the base did not fit.
2. The advertised “360 degree” swivel was impossible since the swivel was provided by a chain link welded in place at the top with a carabiner type hook attaching the chair fabric.
3. And, in any case, the nylon braided cord provided to suspend the chair appears to be too light to take the stress of the weight and the pivoting of the chair over time.
4. My intent was for my wife to use the chair on the lawn where she likes to sit and read, but the chair was made to be bolted down to a deck floor and will have to modified for her to use as intended.
I have a small shop and can probably make modifications to the item so that it will be functional. BUT, I also know from experience that I can build a wooden support structure that will be attractive and more functional that this product; and probably cost less.
By myself-- From breaking open box to fully assembled was less than 20 minutes.
Two tools are included for assembly and four bolts later, you're done.
The small parts are shrink-wrapped to card stock. After reading earlier reviews, it would appear they've ditched using little bags for the small parts.
As noted by other reviewers, the poles and legs are hefty.
*None* of the parts are CRES 316 or stainless, and are therefore prone to corrosion.
Exercise caution when unpacking, cutting tape & wrapping away, and when assembling so as not to damage the coating. A slight nick, or worse, and corrosion will come visit.
As one who lives very close to the Gulf of Mexico, I want corrosion to be delayed as long as possible.
The instructions are a single page and I can only presume were not composed by someone who has actually looked at all the parts and assembled the stand.
The instructions use numbers to identify the small parts but the parts "card" uses alphabetic characters. But again, it's not a car you're building... eezy-peezy...
Another reviewer or two expressed difficulty connecting the two pole parts; perhaps I was lucky- everything came together quickly and easily.
I want to add that the *long* bolts, along with nuts & washers will be used for attaching the legs to the pole and the *short* bolts with washers only will be used for connecting the two pole parts.
If your parts package is identical to mine, you will have two extra washers.
Keep in mind that the two leg parts will not completely envelop the suspension pole. You'll see once you start.
Just strive to keep all three parts symmetrical as you alternately tighten the bolts and you'll be okay.
This stand was purchased to accompany the "Hammocks Rada" Hammock Chair(!) and reflects the usage experience with *only* that particular chair.
(Product link feature did not show this hammock chair)
I will state that if you're buying this stand to accompany the "Rada" hammock chair, save yourself the money and do not buy a spring or additional chain.
You *can* buy a swivel that has a hook and substitute it for the angled S-hook included with the stand.
I weigh 185 lbs. and the distance between my posterior and the stand base is 6". No problem!
Having said that, be mindful of someone weighing say, >250 lbs sitting in hammock chair... The cords will stretch and when you get back into the chair hammock, you may be much closer to the base than before, if not touching it.
The Amazon product photo shown positions the non-Rada chair sideways. The instructions show the "short" legs to be at the front (under your feet) and as such, stability is better. When using the included angled S-hook, your feet will be over the short legs-- Not a deal-breaker but may be an inconvenience for some.
I went with a heavy 4" carabiner I found in my toolbox and now sit "sideways".
I've not yet observed any stability issues (w/ Rada hammock chair) but I also don't move around much when I'm in the chair.
I will likely mosey to Home Depot/Lowes and buy a swivel.
NOTE: if you do opt for positioning the Rada hammock chair sideways, and depending on your weight, the horizontal wooden pole on the chair itself *may* occasionally tap the chair stand suspension pole. With my weight, it has not.
Lastly, some stand measurements for you:
* From deck to tip-top is 86"
* From the hook mount-point to suspension pole at the base is 76"
* Between the outside edges of the back feet is 36-1/2"
* Between the outside edges of the front feet is 28"
* Between the leading edge of front foot to back edge of back foot is 44"
* Total depth from leading edge of front feet to back of suspension pole is ~51"
I've uploaded a few photos as well.
(edit) Someone recently asked me about this stand (05/26/14), and we've since gone with using a hook on an overhead beam on back porch but we still use the stand with another chair hammock. While visiting this product-page, I noticed that all user photos were deleted by whomever (Amazon? Best Choice?)
I'm sending the frame back, in hopes that I'll get one that actually is build to spec. I'll reevaluate the product once I get a replacement.
**Edit: After sending the product back, they shipped a new one to me for free (had to spend $2 bucks to print the shipping label at UPS but other than that shipping was paid for).
The new stand fit together nicely.
