Sadly, this book on hamsters is very different.
It does cover the basics, but hardly anything more. It has very very little info even on such basic things as breeding hamsters and their color varieties. While it claims to cover various hamster species, most of its info is really about Syrian/Golden hamsters, with the nowadays equally popular dwarf hamsters described only very briefly.
Most annoyingly, it is written and laid out in a way that suggests children were the main target readership, and as an adult I found being "spoken to" as if I were 8 or10, with boxed texts of additional nuggets of advice accompanied by photos of the smiling "hamster expert" (the author himself) quite irritating.
The earlier edition of this book by a different author may well be better, and so is Barron's more detailed Hamster Handbook - get that one instead of this book!
