This does not seem to be much of a difference, but believe me it is. You got to suck a lot harder on the little ones to get your juice etc.
Like the others, they are 8.25" long, unextended and 8.75" long extended, for those taller glasses. They have an outside diameter of 5mm, a smidge less for the inside diameter. A sampling of these straws (we've only had them a few days, after all) has shown them strong enough to withstand extreme sucking and slurping when used with low viscosity liquids such as water, flavored water, carbonated soda and 2% milk. They reach all the way to the bottom of a 20 oz. mug and all the liquid on the bottom can be completely vacuumed up. Like the others, there has been not one occurrence of break-at-the-bend, air-suck or air-slurp (the condition that arises when a straw has a pinhole or other unwarranted opening that allows only air or air mixed with liquid to be sucked through). They come packaged in a flexible, transparent plastic container that stores very neatly and accessibly in a cabinet where you might keep things like packaged straws. The packaging on these has a small demi-lune flap on the top that lets you conveniently shake out a few straws for immediate use without undoing the package. This can eliminate having to scotch tape the container together after straws are withdrawn.
Wrong. These straws are cheap because the quality is cheap.
"Oh come on. These straws can't be that bad."
I wish you were right. These straws are too narrow to be of any use.
"Okay, so maybe you can't drink a smoothie or think ice cream shake through them, but they're still useful for pure liquids."
If only. Far too many of these straws were cracked along the bendable area. Thus, the straws were useless for anything,
"Well not ALL of them are cracked."
No, fortunately just a large portion (40-50%) were cracked. So many times I'd try a straw, realize it was cracked, try another straw, realize it, too, was cracked, then find success on the third try. This is not an ideal straw experience.
"But the colors are nice."
If the color is your selling point for a straw, these are the perfect straws for you; just don't expect them to do what they were designed to do.
Recap: Cheap, small, useless, albeit colorful.
If you have trouble swallowing too much at one time, these are the straws for you. If you get most of your calories through thin-average liquids, like Ensure, these are the straws for you. If you just prefer a slightly smaller straw to sip through, these are your straws too. If you want a straw for a nice, thick, milk shake, you probably want to get a straw that is larger than 5mm.
Very happy with this purchase!
