While I wouldn't recommend this book for beginners, as it is fairly technical and advanced, you really can't go wrong with buying this book for someone who is serious in learning Japanese. This book will definitely have a place in my library. Unless there is a Hardcover edition, than that will go in my library. I think this book is that essential.

I bought this book as a way to review words that I already knew and a way to help me explore and discover other verbs that were unfamiliar to me. I reference this book almost every day and it has proved invaluable in helping me study for the JLPT. It contains Kanji pictograms, how to read them, and examples of use in every day sentences. As a language teacher myself, it is nice to have a book that organizes information in a straight-forward way that makes sense, especially for learning new word sets.
If you are learning Japanese, or perhaps a teacher of Japanese who wants to expand their academic library, this book is one of the best reference guides to have at your side. It is a must-have for both learners and educators who want a way to easily view, learn, and teach Japanese verbs.
