About the Author

ROBIN MARTY is a writer and reporter who covers abortion access and the pro-choice and pro-life movement. She has spent the last decade tracking abortion restrictions, visiting current and former clinic sites and interviewing activists on both sides of the abortion divide. Marty is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, a Women's Media Center SheSource expert on reproductive rights, and an IFund investigative reporter for The Nation Institute. Her work can be found in Cosmopolitan, Politico, the Guardian, and other outlets. Her first book, Crow After Roe: How "Separate But Equal" Has Become the New Standard In Women's Health and How We Can Change That. Marty spent five years as the senior political reporter for Rewire News, a reproductive health and justice news site, where she covered state-based abortion bans and other assaults on reproductive rights. She lives in Minneapolis, MN.

    I'm honestly terrified about abortion access in the United States (and contraceptive access, etc etc) these days. Robin Marty's earlier book, co-authored with Jessica Pieklo, Crow After Roe: How "Separate But Equal" Has Become the New Standard in Women's Health and How We Can Change That, helped me understand what anti-abortion movements were doing and how they approached their work. In this new book, Robin Marty shifts the focus to our team - the reproductive rights and justice movements. "Handbook" is an accurate term here, since this book instructs us on how to get involved, alongside cautions regarding risks. I'm thrilled that this book exists - it's assuring to know that this kind of instruction is available to all of us, when we need it. It's an essential work right now.

    I'm sure we've all seen the news lately: several states passing uncannily strict bans on a woman's right to choose, on a woman's right to her own body. We've seen the reports of low birthrates (even though that has literally nothing to do with abortion) and are becoming increasingly aware that women are going to be forced to carry soon.

    This book is necessary for every woman, but moreso for those who are pro-choice. It ships quickly and is more useful than I previously knew. Everything you could need to know about how to protect yourself is here. Get your copy.

    My great granddaughter is in first grade, but I'm buying this to protect her once she hits puberty. My mother and grandmother believed pregnancy was the appropriate punishment for sex outside of marriage (as if married women always wanted every pregnancy they were forced to endured).
    I won't make the same mistake with my girls!! We are NOT going back to the bad old days of coathangers and lye, damn it.
