For the past 20 years or more God has answered some of my most important prayers, including a prayer for a husband and a prayer for a friend who would show me unconditional love. Sometimes however God answers "no" or "wait." Some of my biggest life decisions were changed by God telling me no. And to be honest God knew what was best for me.
But what about you? Do you have a burden to pray for someone? Do you have an important prayer that you pray all the time that hasn't been answered yet? Do you believe God is actually listening?
Charles Stanley explains how to pray with authority so you have more power in prayer. He explains that we need pure motives. His advice about prayer is comforting and good. By reading this book you will know how God answers prayers and also know why God sometimes answers no.
I enjoyed reading this book and I realized how prayer is an important way for us to grow spiritually. We ask and we see prayers answered. So that is one of the main reasons I believe God really does exist.
~The Rebecca Review
This book kindled my prayer life, helped me fast with a purpose and I saw results. It brought me nearer to God, made me pray with conviction and changed the way I handle situations. I'm usually quick to call someone when something happens, which is wrong, but I got some bad news right after reading this and the first thing I did was get on my knees and cry out to God. I fasted and prayed the next day and even as a christian, I was amazed at the miracle that happened. I prayed for what I thought would be the solution and God gave me the best solution I couldn't even have dreamt of. I've heard things like that but i usually things it's quacks being paid to give testimonies. I learned God is always there to listen and he wants to help. He wants the glory to be given to Him. If not anything, remember that people have their own issues, they're not God with the capacity to help and sometimes when you call with your issues, they're tired of listening. God is never tired. Call on the one who has the ability to help you not a mere mortal like you.
If you're a long-term christian who prays routinely in the morning, say a grace at meals and say a quick "thank you Lord" at bedtime, this is a good book to shake up your prayer life. And if you're a christian who's just lazy in prayer, or perhaps, you try but tend to fall asleep or other things come up, (I've been there) this is sure to help you. You can find spurgeons sermon for free via a google search and that, coupled with this should change the way you regard prayer. I stumbled on this book while looking for another and I'm so glad I bought it. Remember, hell never loses a soul without a fight. You'll face adversity trying to pray and draw nearer but keep pushing.
oh, and the kindle price fluctuates...so keep an eye out
I feel like the perspective of this book could be very disheartening for someone starting out on their journey with God. I feel like in writing a book of guidance you have to be careful in the way the material is presented because it can become very "preachy" and less of a tool that someone can use to deepen their relationship with God. I often hesitate to read books like this because instead of offering practical ways for people to apply the very valid principals to my life, I often walk away feeling like I have just read through a book of sermons and lectures. I would never discourage someone from reading a book, but I will say that I would have liked this a lot better if it offered more ways to apply the principals to my everyday life.
