Assembly: Straightforward, included instructions. I was able to knock it out (with help) in about 20 minutes.
Build Quality: Decent. Better than I was expecting for the $$$.
Comfort: Surprisingly good! Like I say before, my expectations were fairly low.
Misc: The sofa does smell like dead fish and gasoline mixed together. Per previous reviews, this smell will go away!
Edit: 2 weeks later, I cannot get the futon to return to the full upright position. There are clearly some quality issues that I did not notice when I originally wrote my review. At this point, the futon is essentially useless unless you want it to lie flat. Id typically return merchandise like this, but it is hard to repackage a 140lb box. Beware of quality issues!!!
The only reasons why this couch didn't get 5 stars is because of the really bad smell that it came with. Kind of a mix between diesel and fish. Reminds me of a bad fishing trip...lol. However, after only a couple of days the smell seems to be going away slowly. The other reason is it didn't come with assembly instructions!!! Most annoying since I only had my iPad and couldn't get the video.
Anyways- I LOVE IT! It's by far the most comfortable futon I've ever been on in my life. There's no annoying bar down the middle when it's laid in "bed" form. It's really easy to lay flat and it even has a recline-like position that's in between up-right and laying flat. And finally, it looks great. It really does look exactly as the picture above shows. We are SO happy and recommend the futon to anyone wanting one!
Update as of August 2013: The couch has broken in the middle (there is a large "pothole" due to the broken spring I guess). What a waste of $500.
As some other reviewers noted, the inside cover does rip easily (ripped on ours after only a couple weeks) and we tried to fix it with duck tape but I doubt it will hold. You can't notice it from the outside but the material is buckled in a couple places as a result. You can also feel the springs of the couch since the cover material's padding is not that thick. It is also difficult to spot clean as it tends to leave a watermark. I have rub with a dry cloth for it to dry without a ring.
Overall, this was a good purchase for the purpose and the price. Note: not for sleeping on every night since the bed, layed flat, still makes a kind of "V" shape, you would break your back after a couple nights.
PROS: Arrived without damage besides one spot* (detailed in CONS), even though the box was busted beyond belief. Once it was set up it looks very, very nice! The material is sturdy and not-cheap looking. The color is true to pictures, though perhaps less pinkish and more warm beige. The pillows don't have black-ish color in them, like the pictures on the site seem to show, they're more brown and match the couch very well. The pillows are made of thick, lovely material and look very nice. Converts easily. I figured, it being a sleeper sofa, that the couch would be uncomfortable for sitting, but in fact it is a really, really comfy couch. Can't comment on how it is to sleep on, but for lounging it is excellent. The sleek, simple lines of the couch in pictures exist in person as well.
CONS: The free shipping option took about two months from order to arrival, so be prepared to wait. The box had multiple holes and gouges in it but thankfully the only damage was what appeared to be a green water damage spot* on a tiny corner of the cushion cover that came off easily with a little spot remover. Due to the holes and damage to the box the couch was covered in dirt and rocks but it cleaned up to brand new, no problem. Kind of a chore to put together but nothing crazy. Takes about an hour if you have a helper.
In conclusion, the colors are a tad different than the pictures but not in a bad way, in my opinion. Long shipping time with some fixable damage. Beautiful, functional and comfortable couch. I would recommend this product and company and would buy from them again.
